Item Development of learning modules in business mathematics(Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University - South La Union Campus, 2022-06) Oriña, Mc Allan G.The COVID-19 crisis and the unparalleled education disruption is far from being over which means that the need for learning modules for Business Mathematics still stands. This paper developed learning modules based on the least mastered competencies that are carefully designed to support the learning of ABM Grade 11 Students towards achieving better academic performances despite the challenges brought about the new normal in education. Descriptive research design was employed in the development of the materials and its analysis on the validation and readability testing. Based on the findings, the developed learning modules in Business Mathematics can be used for the target Grade 11-ABM students as it is highly valid along its content, format, presentation and organization, and accuracy and up-to-datedness of data. Also, the learning modules have a fairly easy level of difficulty in terms of readability and are comprehensible to at least Grade 7, Grade 8, and Grade 9 learners. Thus, it is appropriate for Grade 11 students.Item Structured inquiry-based module in selected topics in linear programming(Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University - South La Union Campus, 2021-06) Villanueva, Ernesto N.Modular learning is one of the blended learning modalities adopted in the country due to the limitations caused by the current global conditions. The use of modules that allow students to develop relevant 21%-century skills is important to ensure the continuous delivery of quality education. Towards this end, this study focused on the development and validation of a structured inquiry-based module in selected topics in Linear Programming, It employed the descriptive and developmental research designs in order establish the validity and readability of the developed module. Seven experts in mathematics and instructional materials development evaluated the developed module using an adopted questionnaire on evaluation assessment of learning materials. The readability of the module was measured through the Flesch-Kincaid Reading Ease and Grade Level Online Tool. Evaluation of the experts revealed that the module obtained passing scores along Content, Format, Presentation and Organization, and Accuracy and Up-to-datedness of Information which implies that the module is valid and can be used as an instructional material. Further, the readability of the module is appropriate to college students therefore the developed material is suitable to the ability and vocabulary level of the target learners.Item E-based-pronunciation tool kit for preservice teachers(Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University - South La Union Campus, 2021-07) Sioco, Merly R.Pronunciation, as a productive skill, is very essential in the teaching profession. Studies in pronunciation errors have paved way for improving the teaching and learning process. This paper focused on the development and evaluation of an e-learning-based pronunciation 100l kit for preservice teachers to develop and hone their pronunciation skills. The construction of the instructional material was based on the results of the needs analysis conducted. The following sounds were mostly and frequently mispronounced:/o/, etc. An e-learning-based pronunciation tool kit was designed to further enhance the pronunciation skills of the preservice teachers. The developed instructional material was validated along content quality, instructional quality, technical quality, and other findings and obtained a validity score of 138.60 and was generally evaluated as highly valid.Item Status and aspirations of drug offenders: basis for a wellness program(Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University - South La Union Campus, 2021-06) Valdez, Sayra D.The study identified the status and aspirations of drug offenders in the 1" District of La Union by determining the profile of the respondents; status of the respondents along well-being and need: aspirations of the respondents; and significant relationship between needs and aspiration variables. This is a descriptive-quantitative research. The findings revealed that most of the drug offenders are males, at the age of 19-40, are single, and are college undergraduates. Of the 82 respondents, 65 are employed. Drug offenders were found to have high psychological well-being but have low purpose in life. ~ They have slight need along the aspects of life: financial, emotional, health, social, spiritual, family, and intellectual. Respondents were found to have strong aspiration along the family aspect of life. Moreover, there was a significant relationship between spiritual needs and financial aspirations and spiritual needs and emotional aspirations. Through the findings, a wellness program is developed for the drug offenders.Item Work values, life attitudes, and job performance of the employees of department of environment and natural resources - region 1: basis for an enhancement program(Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University - South La Union Campus, 2021-06) Batayola, Dana Eulympia E.This descriptive-quantitative study determined the work values and job performance of the employees of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources Region 1 as a basis in formulating an Enhancement Program. Specifically, it determined the profile of the respondents, degree of agreement to lide attitudes, degree of preference to work values of the respondents, level of job performance of the respondents, the relationship between profile and job performance, and relationship between work values and job performance. The study found that majority of the employees are females, belong to the age group of 22-33 years, are married, are college graduates and have not completed any graduate course, and are earning no more than 20,000 but not less than 15,000 pesos. Also, majority of the respondents often do their shopping in the marketplace. Furthermore, majority spends their leisure time by working on the computer, listening to music, and, surfing the web/ watching television. They believe in the following life attitude statements: “Financial security is very important to me.” and “My family is the single most important thing to me”. Further the findings of the study includes that the employees prefer the work values on balance and honesty along core values, learning for work environment, support and teamwork along work interactions, and helping along work activities. The study also found out that the level of job performance of the employees generally meets expectations and there is no significant relationship between profile and job performance of the respondents, There is a significant relationship between work values and the indicators of job performance which include communication and use of tools and equipment. Lastly a wellness program may be proposed based on the results of the study.Item Challenges and aspirations of midlife women: a basis for an action plan(Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University - South La Union Campus, 2021-06) Aganon, Princess Joyce P.Midlife is a transition in the life of a woman of 40 to 65 years old, that characterized by rapid changes biologically, socially and psychologically. This study aimed to determine the challenges and aspirations of midlife women. Specifically, it sought to describe and analyze midlife’s’ personal and psychological profile, experiences, level of stress, self-esteem, attitudes, difficulties and desires. Further, it looked into the relationship between personal and psychological profile of midlifers. The researcher utilized the quantitative approach and the descriptive research design. The purposive sampling was used to identify the sixty (60) female teachers, aged 40 to 60 years old respondents from La Union Diocesan and private schools. Questionnaires were utilized as the main gathering tool. The findings revealed that most of the midlifers are 40-45 years old, married, college graduates earning between 10,000 to 15,000 pesos. As to psychological profile, respondents in terms of midlife experiences are “likely satisfied”, they are “more likely to suffer stress-ill related”. Moreover, they have a “fairly good self-esteem”. As to the Attitude Scale towards midlife, respondents have a “moderately positive attitude”. Furthermore, the top 3 challenges of midlife of the respondents are the following; Health, Financial Worries, and Work- Related Issues and Co-occurring stressors ranked as ties. For Level of Aspirations of Midlifers, results showed that the midlifers “highly aspired” the following: family, health and mental; financial; Social and emotional. Spiritual obtained the highest mean. The study also found out that there is a significant positive relationship between civil status and level of stress. Likewise, highest educational attainment is significantly positively related to attitude towards midlife. It served as basis for the formulation of a proposed action plan to guide and provide direction to women towards their journey as midlifers.Item Angio-suppressive and non-teratogenic properties of morus alba l. (Mulberry) fruit extract using chorioallantoic membranes and embryos of anas platyrhynchos (Duck)(Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University - South La Union Campus, 2020-06) Barrameda, Evangel M.Chronic diseases such as cancer remains as a threat to humanity, thus researchers continue to explore plants’ potential bioactivities to combat them. This study tested the angio-suppressive and non-teratogenic properties of varying concentrations of Morus alba L. fruit ethanolic extract (MFEE) on chorioallantoic membranes and embryos of Anas platyrhynchos. Phytochemical screening of mulberry fruit was conducted and validated the presence of alkaloids, phenolics, flavonoids, carbohydrates and reducing sugars. 4 possible inhibition of neovascularization was indicated by the considerable reduction in number of branches per segment and branch point density, and increased intercapillary distance in CAMs exposed to 60-75ug/ml M. alba fruit extract. Vascular occlusions and petechial hemorrhage were also recorded in all MFEE-treated CAMs. Apparent non-teratogenicity of the extract was revealed by the increase in body weight, beak length, forelimb length, hindlimb length, body length in embryos administered with 15-30ug/ml M. alba fruit extract. All MFEE-treated embryos did not show any physical deformities or malformations, and normal cartilage formation was also recorded.Item Management functions and skills of bible college administrators of baguio city: basis for a sustainability program(Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University - South La Union Campus, 2020-07) Benalio, Marlon T.Effective practice of management functions and skills is instrumental in attaining the institution’s desired goals and objectives. It also paves the way in attaining quality education. This study determined the level of attainment of management functions and the extent of practice of management skills of bible college administrators of Baguio City. It used the descriptive method involving 80 respondents, 17 school administrators, 63 faculty and staff and student body officers. It used a survey questionnaire in gathering the profile of the school administrators as well as the level of implementation of their management functions and the extent of practice of their management skills. Results of the study revealed that the Bible College administrators possessed the qualities of effective school administrators. The level of implementation of their management functions is regarded as highly attained while the extent of practice of their management skills is regarded as highly practiced. No significant relationship was established between their profile and management functions and management skills.Item Predictors of reading competencies of kindergartners: basis for a developmental reading program(Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University - South La Union Campus, 2020-07) Quiaoit, Jenie V.Reading competency of learners are influenced by internal and external factors. This study aimed to determine the factors affecting the reading competency of 55 DMMMSU MLUC preschoolers and to formulate a developmental reading program. Standardized survey questionnaire and reading assessment were used as the main data gathering tools. Findings include: learners’ extent of support to the areas of home reading support, home environment, and school environment are in the highly supported level; kindergartners are interested in reading; the reading competencies of kindergartners are generally competent; significant associations exist along the areas of letter knowledge, phonemic awareness and comprehension; the predictors identified are the parents'/caregivers’ provided activities, availability of reading materials, and interpersonal. The proposed developmental reading program is designed to help enhance the reading competencies of learners.Item Physics educational technology (PhET) simulations in teaching general physics 1(Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University - South La Union Campus, 2020-06) Almadrones, Rhandy DG.As stipulated in the "K to 12 Program" of the Department of Education, the traditional way of teaching and learning should be transformed into electronic learning where ICT skills and technologies are introduced to the 21st-century learners, as well as 21"-century teachers. This paper tried to determine if teaching by utilizing Physics Education Technology (PhET) Simulations can impinge on the mastery of the least learned competencies in General Physics 1. It specifically analyzed the Proficiency level and Performance level in demonstrative applications in Physics. The current study also proposed an enhanced lesson plan exemplar that can be adopted by STEM teachers in teaching Physics. The descriptive method of research was employed in the study. During the investigation, there were 49 Grade 12 STEM students participated. The study concludes that PhET Simulation-Integrated instruction can improve the students' proficiency level on the least mastered competencies in General Physics 1. It also strengthened the claim that PhET Simulations can be a virtual laboratory for assessing students' performance on demonstrative applications. Further, utilizing and integrating PhET Simulations in delivering physics lessons can promote positive and engrossing learning experiences among learners.Item Wellness and health-related fitness practices of physical education and health teachers(Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University - South La Union Campus, 2020-06) Sibul, Kevin M.This study investigated the wellness practices and health-related fitness of Physical Education and Health Teachers of the Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University. Actual data were used to describe the health profile (chest x-ray, resting blood pressure, and resting heart rate) and health-related fitness (body composition, cardiovascular endurance, flexibility, and strength) of the participants. A questionnaire was used to determine the extent of practice of the different wellness activities. Data gathered were treated statistically using frequency counts, average weighted mean, and correlation analysis. Results of the study showed that all the wellness practices of the teachers as to physical, intellectual, emotional, social, spiritual, and occupational were rated highly practiced. In terms of health profile, resting heart rate was found significantly related to the fitness level along cardio-vascular endurance. Emotional and social wellness were significantly related to the fitness level along body composition while emotional wellness was significantly related to the fitness level along cardiovascular endurance. The study also showed that intellectual, emotional, spiritual and occupational wellness were found significantly related to the fitness level of the respondents along flexibility. Only physical wellness was significantly related to the fitness level of the respondents along muscular fitness. A wellness program was proposed for the improvement of the total well-being of the teachers.Item Relative effectiveness of the different reading strategy clusters in the reading motivation of the 11" graders(Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University - South La Union Campus, 2020-07) Sapasap, Philip D.Reading motivation has been a large-scale problem in the education sector, and the basis of many researchers to constantly search for varied strategies to assist students and increase their reading motivation. To fill-in the gap in this unexplored area of research, a study on identifying the relative effectiveness of the different strategy clusters in the reading motivation, which utilized quasi-experimental design with multiple-treatment, was conducted to 115 eleventh graders from four different strands. This study yielded the following findings:1) all strands displayed high motivation level in paired cluster along reading performance and overt off-task, while both paired and small group reading strategies are the most preferred reading strategy clusters by all strands; 2) paired and small group are relatively effective to the students’ motivation along reading performance, while paired cluster appeared effective along overt off-task and reading strategy preference survey; and 3) paired came out as the best strategy cluster to increase their reading motivation.Item The inclusive education program of pamibian integrated school: basis for sustainability program(Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University - South La Union Campus, 2019-05) Alop, Jaira L.Inclusive education gives access to all learners especially those with special learning needs. It is where all learners, regardless of differences, have the opportunity to learn with and from each other. This paper evaluated the inclusive education program at Pamibian Integrated School. The study also determined the awareness, attitudes, and instructional strategies used. Correlation was used in determining relationship between profile and their awareness and implementation. Data were gathered through questionnaires administered among the teacher and parent respondents. Results indicated that the teachers and parents had a high awareness on inclusive education. Teachers have a positive attitude towards inclusive education. The teachers always used the following strategies: hands-on learning, cooperative learning, direct instruction, modeling, project-based learning, game-based learning, and guided inquiry. The school has a well implemented inclusive education program. In terms of correlation, there is a moderate correlation between training and level of implementation along physical environment.Item Using 5e instructional model in teaching force and motion(Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University - South La Union Campus, 2019-05) Tandas, Marvin V.This study investigated the effects of SE instructional model on Grade VI pupils’ academic performance in force and motion. One class with 24 pupils participated in the research using mixed-method in which the quantitative data were collected using an achievement test, whereas, qualitative data were analyzed via content analysis of the reflection logs of the pupils. Frequency count, mean, standard deviation and t-test were used to analyze the pre-post test scores of the pupils. The findings revealed that 5E instructional model significantly improved the acquisition of scientific concepts in force and motion among pupils. The results have also been supported by the reflections collected from the pupils and were thematically analyzed. This study revealed that the 5E instructional model is a potential strategy to improve academic performance in force and motion among sixth graders.Item Biology proficiency of junior high school science teachers in the second congressional district of La Union: an input to a science training program(Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University - South La Union Campus, 2019-05) Frijas, Riza Joy D.Science develops students’ critical thinking and good attitudes which are very useful to the personal development, future career, and life of a student. This study determined the biology proficiency of the Junior High School Science Teachers in the Second Congressional District of La Union in terms of their scientific knowledge and scientific attitude. A descriptive method, using cluster random sampling, was employed to assess the level of biology proficiency of the respondents concentrating on two domains: the scientific knowledge and scientific attitude. These were correlated to their profile using the Pearson (*) Correlation. The findings of the study showed that Junior School Science teachers have poor rating on their biology proficiency test but possess a positive attitude towards teaching science. Moreover, teaching experience and number of trainings attended positively associated and contributed much to the level of proficiency of the respondents while educational background moderately contributed to the scientific attitude of the respondents.Item Effectiveness of a contextualized interactive multimedia for grade 8 science students(Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University - South La Union Campus, 2019-05) Cadizal, Richard G.The Computer-Assisted Instruction is undertaken widely to catch interest and to improve student's performance. This Descriptive and True- Experimental research was anchored in determining the effects of the developed and validated Contextualized Interactive Multimedia (CIMM) to the 58 grade 8 students of Tanglag National High School in their Science subject. To determine the level of interest of the population toward Science subject, the researcher utilized a 10-item survey-questionnaire called Test of Related Science Attitude (TORSA). Additionally, a researcher-made pretest and posttest questionnaires were administered to determine the academic performance of the respondents. Findings showed that there is an increase in the academic performance and interest toward Science of the experimental group who was exposed to the CIMMs. Moreover, significant difference does not exist between the results of the posttests of both groups. However, a significant difference can be noted between the controlled and experimental groups'’ attitude toward Science subject after the implementation of the intervention.Item The k to 12 physical education curriculum: a retrospect on the implementation and a prospect for its enhancement(Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University - South La Union Campus, 2019-05) Domiquel, Darwin G.This study is anchored in Tyler’s Curriculum Development Model. It aimed to determine in retrospect the implementation of Physical Education curriculum in selected private Junior High Schools in the City of San Fernando, La Union. The mixed method concurrent triangulation design was used to gather the quantitative and qualitative data needed through a questionnaire and personal interview with the respondents. The four-point Likert scale was used to obtain the Average Weighted Mean (AWM) of the quantitative data while thematic analysis was applied to describe, compare and relate in reporting the results. Findings of the study showed that majority of PE teachers in private schools are holding a position of Teacher I with an average of 1-5 years in teaching, mostly in Grade 10. Private schools are progressing in the implementation of the curriculum. Schools could be assisted to a moderate extent. Respondents need trainings and workshops and wanted to pursue their Master’s degree in PE. The main barrier that private Junior High schools had encountered in successfully implementing the PE curriculum is the availability of resources.Item Revisiting the physical education experience: relevant learnings from the lived experiences of professionals(Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University - South La Union Campus, 2019-12) Bandoc, Maureen Jane O.Physical Education (PE) is a comprehensive program that provides a unique learning environment in schools which aims for the holistic development of students through the facilitation of varied types of movement experiences. This qualitative phenomenological study explored the relevant learnings from the Physical Education program from the lens of the professionals’ experiences. Semi-structured interviews were conducted to 15 professionals who are currently managers in their own workplace. Using Colaizzi's method of qualitative data analysis, this study surfaced two general themes which represents the professionals’ PE program experiences of exciting and exacting encounters. These refer to “crowning and downing”, “supporting and striving”, and “gaining and wanting” emerging the 5D’s of relevant learnings from the PE program experience namely: demonstrating excellence, displaying grit, delighting on team spirit, deciding on priorities, and dedicating on fitness. Application of these relevant learnings to the workplace were discussed as revealed by participants.Item Effect of bilingual modules on the performance of senior high school students in basic calculus(Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University - South La Union Campus, 2019-07) Garnace, Jake B.This study aimed to determine the effect of Bilingual Modules on the performance of senior high school students in Basic Calculus. It employed the design and development research and true experimental research design. The developed Bilingual Modules in Basic Calculus covered the learning competencies on differentiating algebraic, exponential, and trigonometric functions, and higher order derivatives. Two matched groups of Grade 11 learners were the respondents in the experimentation phase of the study. The control group utilized the modules in Basic Calculus written in English while the experimental group used the Bilingual Modules. Results of the experts’ evaluation revealed that the modules obtained a passing score along Content, Format, Presentation and Organization, and Accuracy and Up-to-Datedness of Information. Although the experimental group posted a higher mean score in the posttest as compared to the control group, further statistical analysis showed no significant difference between the levels of their performance.Item Research capability training on statistical tools for senior high school teachers(Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University - South La Union Campus, 2019-05) Ferreras, Chris John Paul M.Researches reveal that statistical analysis is difficult to grip over and is therefore one reason for researchers to discontinue doing research. Thus, this study which utilized ex post facto experimental design, and which aimed to determine the level of competence of teachers in using basic statistical tools in research before and after the training. A questionnaire was used to identify the profile of teacher-participants as to highest educational attainment, years of teaching, researches conducted, published, and presented, and trainings attended. Competence of teachers was identified using a test. Teachers’ profile was analyzed using frequencies and percentages, and pre-test and posttest was analyzed using mean and compared using t-test. Results showed that most teachers are masters degree holder and taught research from 0-2 years. Likewise, teachers have conducted, published, and presented Jew researches and attended limited trainings. In general, their competence increased after the training making the training significant. Therefore, the training is effective in enhancing teachers competence in using basic statistical tools in research.
