Publication The effects of different inoculants of peanut(Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State Univeristy - South La Union Campus, 1992-03) Raguidin, Rey S.This study was conducted to find out the effects of different inoculants on peanut with pure (peanut), soybean, bean and mungo on peanut plant without the application of any inorganic commercial fertilizer.Publication The effects of different holding solutions in lengthening the Vaselife of Chrysanthemum Cutflowers (Chrysanthemum Morifolium)(Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State Univeristy - South La Union Campus, 1997-03) Tingco, Elsienora C.; Paragas, Cherry P.This study was conducted to determine the effects of different holding solutions in lengthening the vaselife of chrysanthemum cutflowers. The seven holding solutions which correspond to the seven treatments were: To - water as the control; -10 ml of Cocogro per 500 ml solution; T2 - 20 ml of Cocogro per 500 ml solution; T3 - 50 ml of Cocogro per 500 ml solution; T4 - 10 ml coconut water per 500 ml solution; T5 - 20 ml coconut water per 500 ml solution; and T6 - 50 ml coconut water per 500 ml solution. Following the Completely Randomized Design, the treatment were replicated three times. The Analysis of Variance and tha Duncan’s Multiple Range Test were used to test the differences among the treatments. Several methods were used such as flower cutting and collection, cleaning and preparation of bottles, and application of the treatments making the experiment possible. Findings showed that treatment 6 is significantly different from other treatments in terms of the number of days before the flowers wilted as revealed in the Duncan’s Multiple Range Test. All other treatments except were found to be insignificant with each other. This further implies that had the longest vaselife duration of the cutflowers. It also showed that ranks second in terms of number of detached ray-flowers within two weeks. Total number of detached ray-flowers revealed an insignificant result among the given treatments. This further implies that number of detached ray-flowers did not affect the longevity of the vaselife of chrysanthemum cutflowers.Publication Comparative study of commercial feeds on the weight performance of newly weaned pigs(Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State Univeristy - South La Union Campus, 1998-03) Alva, Lea M.The study was conducted to determine which brand of commercial feeds gave the best result in terms of the total gain in weight, total weight, total feed consumption, and final feed conversion efficiency of the animals. The Completely Randomized Design (CRD) was used in this study. There were four brands of commercial feeds used, namely: T1-B-meg, T2-Purina, T3-Vitarich, Ta-Selecta feeds. There were 12 piglets used and three piglets were placed in each treatment. Each piglet represented a treatment. Results showed that there were no significant variations in the initial weight of the weanlings, final weight, total gain in weight, total feed consumption. However, feed conversion efficiency of the animals was affected by the different brands of commercial feeds. Generally, pigs given Purina feeds registered the highest mean in terms of total feed consumption, total gain in weight, and final weight of the animals. However, pigs given Selecta feeds (T4) had the highest mean as far as feed conversion' efficiency is concerned. This indicates that any of the different brands of commercial feeds can be used depending on the current price of these feeds in the market. However, scientists in St. Louis, Missouri (1982) reported and claimed that Purina registered the best results in their experiment. Their findings corroborate with the results of this study. There are no conclusive results as to which brand of commercial feeds should be suitable for the weanlings. It is, therefore, recommended that further study on the use of different brands of commercial feeds be conducted.Publication Effects of black boxing duration on the hatching performance of silkworm egg(Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State Univeristy - South La Union Campus, 1998-03) Agas, Luzviminda S.; Navera, Toni Jean G.This experimental study was conducted at DMMMSU-NLUC. Bacnotan, - La Union from December 1996 to January 1997, to determine the effects of black boxing duration on the hatching performance of silkworm eggs. Specifically, it sought to answer the following questions: 1. What is the effect of black boxing duration on the hatching performance of silkworm eggs In terms of: a.) percentage nurnber of hatched eggs b.) percentage number of unhatched eggs, and c.) percentage number of dead eggs 2. What is the best black boxing duration on the hatching performance of silkworm eggs? There were 9 layings which were distributed Into 3 treatments: T1- 2 days, T2- 3 days (control), and T3- 4 days. The Completely Randomized Design (CRD) was used in this study. The Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) was used to determine whether the differences betwen and among treatment means is significant set at 0.05 and O.O~ levels. The, Duncan's Multiple Range Test (DMRT) was also us to analyze further the' differences within the treatments. To determine the effect of black boxing duration, counting was done as to the color of the eggs: milky white color- hatched eggs; black color-hatched eggs; and brown color- dead eggs. This was done by using microscopes. According to our findings, T1 and T2 are the best duration of -black boxing because they have the higher percentage number of hatched eggs. In T1 98% of hatched eggs were produced, while T2 has 99% of hatched eggs. This means that both T1 and T2 are comparable and either treatment could be used in synchronizing egg hatching. According to our findings two days and three days are the best duration of black boxing because they have the highest percentage number of hatched eggs. On the other hand, T3 (4 days) or prolonged black boxing affects the hatching performance of silkworm eggs. The longer H was subjected to black boxing, the more dead and/ or unhatched eggs result.Publication Bacteriological analysis of drinking water at four selected areas of dagupan city(Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State Univeristy - South La Union Campus, 2000-03) Navarro, Jocelyn B.; Borja, Reynaliza G.This study was conducted at Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University, Southern La Union Campus, Agoo, La Union from November 1, 1999 to January 8, 2000. There is no significant difference between the number of bacterial count in Nawasa, deep well and purified water. b.) There is no significant difference on the number of bacteria present during the months of collection. c.) There is no significant difference on the morphological, cultural, and physiological characteristics of bacteria present in Nawasa, deep well and purified water. d.) There is no significant difference on the bacteria present in the Nawasa, deep well and purified water. The bacteria present were identified based morphological, cultural, and physiological characteristics. Two..Way analysis of Variance (ANOVA) set at 0.01 level of significance to determine the variations among treatment means while the Duncan's Multiple Range Test was also used to determine where lies the significance among the treatments. Findings of the study were: The bacterial counts in drinking water from four selected areas of Oagupan City were highest in November but lowest December. The bacteria present in purified water regardless of the month of collection were identified as Escherichia coli and Enterobacter. In T1, the bacteria present Escherichia coli which is mostly abundant and small number of Enterobacter. In T2, the bacteria present were identified as Escherchia coli and Enterobacter. In T3, the bacteria present were identified as Escherichia coli and Enterobacter. In T4, the bacteria present were identified as Escherichia coli and Enterobacter. The bacteria identified in the samples of drinking water were Escherichia coli and Enterobacter.Publication Nutritional status and the academic performance of senior high school students:(Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State Univeristy - South La Union Campus, 2000-03) Villamin, Catherine C.; Oribello, GinaThis thesis entitled "Nutritional Status and the Academic Performance of Senior High School Students of President Elpidio Quirino National High School, Agoo, La Union, SY 1999 - 2000: A Correlates" was prepared by Catherine C. Villamin and Gina R Onbello under the advisorship of Professor Engracia G. Ronquillo dary school of PEQNHS, and its relationship to their academic performance. More specifically, it sought to answer the following questions: What is the demographic profile of the fourth year high school students of PEQNHS along the following variables; age, sex, family size, family monthly income, parents' educational attainment and parents' occupational level; What is the level of nutritional status of fourth year high school students of PEQNHS along the following variables; weight and height; What is the level of performance of the fourth year students during the school year 1999 - 2000 as reflected in form 137; Is there a significant relationship between the demographic profile of the fourth year high school students and their academic performance and; Is there a significant relationship between the level of nutritional status and their academic performance as to weight and height. This study tested the hypothesis that there is significant relationship between the academic performance and nutritional status of the senior high school students. The descriptive research method with the questionnaire as data gathering instrument was utilized in the research. The respondents consisted of 104 senior high school students. The data obtained through questionnaire were tallied and tabulated in terms of frequency counts and given their corresponding percentages. With the aid variables age, sex, family size, monthly family income, parent' educational attainment and parents' occupational level, height-weight-standards by the FNRI, and the Grade Point Average from first year to third year, the relationship between the academic performance and nutritional status were statistically analyzed using the Chi - Square Test of Independence at .05 level of significance. The salient findings of the study indicate that majority of the respondents age 17 years old. Males outnumber the females. Most respondents belonged to moderate family size. Majority of the respondents' parents fell on the low occupational level. The level of income per- month is from 5,000 to 9,999 and below. Under nutritional profile, the respondents are mostly underweight. There are slightly more normal respondents compared to underheight and overheight. At least 62 of the respondents belonged to average achievers group. There was no significant relationship between the academic performance of the students and that of their nutritional levels both in terms of height and weight. Academic performance was not significantly related to the age, family size, monthly family income, parents' educational attainment, and parents' occupational level. However it was also found out that there is a significant relationship between sex and academic performance of respondents respectively. Consequently, it was concluded that academic performance of the respondents was not influenced by their nutritional levels both in terms of height and weight. Age, family size, monthly family income, parents' educational attainment and occupational level were not the problems regarding academic performance of the students. However, there is a significant relationship between the academic performance of the respondents and that of their sex. It is recommended therefore that schools, especially high schools, should sponsor training courses or workshops in nutrition for students as well as for parents whereby they will learn more about food selection, preparation and serving. technology and Home Economics teachers should be involved in food and nutrition projects. School cafeteria! canteen, should sell only those foods that are nutritious to supplement the home diets. The .school administrators, teachers and the students themselves should plan and implement programs to improve the nutritional status of the students. Nutrition education should be given top priority in the implementation of the DECS curricular thrusts. A thorough follow up of their academic underachievers should be part of the regular supervisory program.Publication Development of worksheets in determinants(Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State Univeristy - South La Union Campus, 2000-03) Dispo, Jonilyn P.; Layman, Marivic C.Jonilyn P. Dispo and Marivic C. Layman did this thesis entitled "Development of Worksheets in Determinants". Their adviser is Professor Corazon F. Regacho. They constructed worksheets in determinants to help and guide the students develop their mathematical skills like analyzing, interpreting and solving exercises and problems in Linear Algebra under the topic Determinants. It will also serve as an additional reference material in studying the topic on Determinants in Linear Algebra. This study aimed to answer the following questions: 1.) How valid are the worksheets in Determinants? 2.) What is the impact of the development of worksheets in Determinants to education? This study used the research and development (R and D) under the descriptive evaluative research design method. A questionnaire was used to evaluate the content validity of the worksheets. In the development of the worksheets. the following steps were followed by the researchers: 1.) Planning and Organizing, which the researchers gathered various reference materials and relevant facts and information about Determinants and formatting the worksheets. 2.) Writing the worksheets. which includes editing and evaluating the trial form of the worksheets. The content validity of the material was done through the evaluation of five (5) mathematics teachers in Linear Algebra and College Algebra. Weighted mean was used in computing the data gathered. Results were tabulated and corrections and suggestions were considered in writing the final form of the worksheets. From the computation results. it was found out that the worksheets weighted mean is 4.29 which falls on the bracket 3.60-4.59 in the rating scale, which is ''very adequate". This means that the content validity of the material has a very high rating. This indicates that each objective are specific and detailed, clear, and the stated objectives are attainable, to those Who will take up Linear Algebra on the topic Determinants. It is also useful and appropriated for college students. As the result of this study, it is recommended to undergo a try-out to students who will take up Linear Algebra for the reliability and effectiveness of the material. Also, continuous revisions for the worksheets for further improvement of the worksheets. Conclusions From table 1, we can say that the worksheets are suitable and related to the ability level of students who will take up Linear Algebra on the topic Determinants. It is also useful and appropriate to college students. From table 2, we can conclude that most of the worksheets developed are okay, only few of the worksheets had corrections. From the tabulated data on the Validators Evaluation of the Worksheets, we can say that the worksheets are highly valid as attested by the five competent teachers in Linear Algebra and College Algebra. The impact to education on the development of worksheets in Determinants is to have an improved teacher-student ratio, substantial use of seminars, tutorials, colloquia, consortia, and an improved method of evaluation, to test not only the student's scholastic achievement but also his ability to do critical thinking and use of knowledge required. It has been an accepted aim also to train students to acquire proficiency to discuss and discover as well as to debate and defend in areas of knowledge that they have acquired. In short, curricular assessment and redesigning, includes use of suitable textbooks and other instructional materials, improved and tested teaching methods and adequate evaluation techniques.Publication Acceptability of ube haleya with sweet potato as extender(Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State Univeristy - South La Union Campus, 2001-03) Estoesta, Rosalie; Fajardo, Pioquinto; Fontanilla, Mailyn; Gayo, Editha; Laguerta, Quirino, Jr.; Mabutas, FrederickThis study aimed to determine the acceptability of Ube Haleya with sweet potato as extender. Specifically, it sought to answer the following questions: 1. What is the degree of difference between the formulated recipe and th " e original recipe in terms of: a. Color and Appearance? b. Texture? c. Flavor and Aroma? 2. Which of the two recipes is preferred, the formulated recipe or the original recipe? 3. What is the difference in the cost of preparation of the formulated recipe and the original recipe compared? The study used the experimenta1 design where convenience or accidental sampling was conducted. The formulated recipe and the original recipe were evaluated by 259 BSE college students of DMMMSU-SLUC, Agoo, La Union. Two sample tests were coded as Sample A and Sample B. To gather data, questionnaires were distributed and were properly accomplished by the 259 respondents. The questionnaire consists of two .parts. The first part consists of the personal profile of the respondents (name, age, sex, civil status) and the second part consists of information about the acceptability of ube haleya with sweet potato as extender. The preference test, hedonic rating scale, weighted mean and analysis of variance (ANOVA) were used for the statistical treatment of the gathered data. FINDINGS: 1. In terms of color and appearance, both recipes fall within the limits of "like very much". The original recipe was favored more than the formulated recipe by the respondents. The respondents highly merited the original recipe in terms of color. The use of sweet potato as extender made the color of the recipe more appealing. 2. The texture of "Ube Haleya with Sweet Potato" was highly accepted by the respondents and was rated; "like extremely", while the original recipe was also accepted and rated "like very much." The formulated recipe was favored more than the original recipe. 3. In terms of flavor and aroma, both recipes fall within the limits of "like very much". The formulated recipe was more appealing than the original recipe by the respondents. The use of sweet potato as an extender improved a bit the taste of the formulated recipe. 4. The formulated recipe or the "Ube Haleya with Sweet Potato" was highly preferred by the respondents over the original recipe. The sweet potato greatly improved the color and appearance, texture, and flavor and aroma of the formulated recipe. 5. The analysis of variance (ANOVA) revealed that there is no significant difference between the formulated recipe and the original recipe in terms of color and appearance, texture, and flavor and aroma. 6. The cost analysis of the formulated recipe and the original recipe indicate that the use of sweet potato as an extender in the recipe did not entail much additional cost to the preparation but improved the properties of the recipe as well as lessened a bit the expenses.Publication Implementation of RHU health programs in Mangaldan, Pangasinan(Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State Univeristy - South La Union Campus, 2001-03) Aleausin, Luke T.An interview schedule with descriptive survey and structured survey questionnaire were used to gather information about the profile of the respondents and the extent of implementation of the RHU Health Programs in Mangaldan, Pangasinan. Findings showed that majority of the respondents were at 21-50 age bracket Most of them are female and one-half of them are employed. majority of them earn below P 3,000 per month and have attained average level of education, The personal profile of the respondents such as age, sex and occupation were found to be significantly related to the extent of implementation of RHU Health Programs.Publication Growth performance of bougainvillea spp. cuttings in different soil media(Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State Univeristy - South La Union Campus, 2001-03) Punzalan, Annalie M.; Marcella, Carmela S.The study determined how the different soil media as potting media affected the growth performance of 2 varieties of bougainvillea cuttings in terms of number of days new shoots appeared, number of shoots appeared and the length of new stems. The two - factorial experiment following the Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) were used with four treatments replicated three times. The following treatments were To - 100% garden soil, TI - 50% garden soil + 50% cocodust, T2 - 50% garden soil 50% ricehull, and T3 - 50% garden soil + 25% cocodust + 25% ricehull. Bougainvillea cuttings were selected from the healthy branches. Each and all of the stem cuttings has three nodes. The basal end was planted at a depth of 10 em. The planted cuttings were placed at a partially shaded area. Watering of the plants was done three times a week. Following the formula of two-way Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) set at 0.05 and 0.0 I levels of significance was used to determine if there is significant differences among the treatments. The Duncan's Multiple Range Test (DMRT) was used further to determine where lies the significance. The result of the study showed significant difference between the 2 varieties of bougainvillea cuttings in terms of number of days new shoots appeared. Variety I (pink) performed better by having lesser number of days for new shoots to appear. The different soil media (potting media) or treatments, variety and the combined effect of variety and treatment did not have significant effect on the number of shoots appeared and length of new stem. Growth performance of the 2 varieties of bougainvillea cuttings is comparable when subjected to different soil media or treatments. Based on the number of shoots appeared, the different soil media (treatments), variety and the combined effect of variety and treatment revealed insignificantly difference. These factors did not have a significant effect on the number of shoots appeared. As to the length of new stems, the different treatments, variety and the combined effect of variety and treatment declared insignificant difference. It implies that these independent variables did not have a significant effect on the length of new stems.Publication Yield performance of sweet potato Ipomoea batatas) using item cutting and storage root as planting materials(Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State Univeristy - South La Union Campus, 2001-03) Dulce, Marlene G.This study was designed to determine the yield performance of sweet potato as affected by different planting materials. Significant differences among the variables were determined. All secondary schools science teachers in Agoo formulated their objectives mostly under cognitive domain. Each year level has the same PSSLC but they made use of different topics. First year secondary science teachers have the highest of values integrated followed by the , third year science teachers. While second and fourth year secondary science teachers never integrated. Other salient findings were only first year science teacher who made use skills to impart their lessons. On the other hand, most of them uses different motivational technique as well as in evaluating their students' ability acquired from them. Likewise, secondary school science teachers gave assignment from both types which are drawn from the day's lesson and next or new topic. Further findings are that, age and years of teaching are the profile of science teachers which has no relationship among variables in lesson planning. While the seminars or trainings attended has a correlation to variables in lesson planning. Most of the secondary schools science teachers are generally young. This means that science teachers are more perceptive to change and are more open to new trends in science teaching. Of the 14 teacher-respondents, all of them had participated in a seminar. Secondary school science teachers are also "neophyte", Majority of them are teaching within 1-10 years. This means teachers retired early or because of some constraints therefore few science teachers teaching in a longer duration. Of the 14 science teachers in Agoo formulated their objectives mostly under cognitive domain. Each year level have the same PSSLC but they made use of different topics. First year science teachers have the highest of values integrated, followed by the science teachers who made use of skills to impart their lessons. Likewise, most of them uses different motivational technique as well as in evaluating their students' ability or acquired knowledge from them. Same through they gave assignment from both types. Among the profile of teachers, age and years of teaching are the profile which has no relationship with the variables indicated in lesson planning. While the seminars and trainings attended has a correlation to variables in lesson planning. Based on the findings, only first year secondary schools science teachers construct quality lesson plan because they made use of all the variables indicated in lesson planning. Secondary schools science teachers construct their lesson plan with equal emphasis along the different variables to have a quality lesson plan. Secondary schools science teachers should established laboratory rooms and improvised equipment to enable them to cope with current and future needs for science experiments/activities. Secondary schools science teachers should follow topics based on their PSSLC to enhance effective learning. Science teachers should improve their teaching through the use of modem techniques in science instruction, that a special evaluation program in the division level should be designed to measure the degree in which modem objectives in science instruction are implemented and attained by the students, and the use of evaluation items that are reflective of the objectives be emphasized. In order to contribute to the development of the society, there is a need to upgrade and to enrich the teaching methodologies to have more productive results particularly in achieving changes in attitude and values which must be reflected in a marked change in conduct and behavior of the products of the school. Teachers should be encouraged to pursue their masters degree; that in-service trainings in science should be held at the beginning of the school year; and that administrators should invite resource persons or specialists in science to talk on trends and techniques in teaching science.Publication Comparative study between ube haleya and squash haleya(Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State Univeristy - South La Union Campus, 2002-03) Cartas, Ruby Lyn G.; Clata, Rona O.; Dacaymat, Leah N.; Delos Santos, Liza S.; Dulay, Ginalyn L.This research study attempted to determine the difference between ube haleya and squash haleya. Specifically, this study aimed to answer the following questions: 1. What is the difference between the fonnulated recipe and the original recipe in terms of: a. Appearance b. Aroma c. Color d. Flavor e. Texture 2. Which of the two recipes is more preferred? 3. Which preparation is cheaper? This study used the experimental design where purposive or judgmental sampling was conducted. In terms of appearance, aroma, color, flavor and texture, both recipes fell within the limits of "like very much." Statistically, the two haleyas did not differ significantly in aU areas. The cost analysis of the formulated recipe and the original recipe indicates that the preparation of squash haleya is cheaper compared to the preparation of ube haleya.Publication Behaviors of smokers on cigarette smoking in selected public places(Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State Univeristy - South La Union Campus, 2002-03) Cabasag, Russel B.; Cabreros, Honey Belle E.; Dacanay, Edwin L.; Delizo, Carlito S.; Dulin, Marites V.; Villanueva. Lea C.This study sought to determine the various behaviors of people towards cigarette smoking in selected public places. Specifically, it was conducted to determine 1.) the profile of the respondents in terms of gender, age, civil status, religion, family income, and personal features, 2.) the reasons why they smoke cigarettes, 3.) the places where smoking is regularly done, 4.) the related causes of cigarette smoking, and 5.) the social behaviors of smokers. This study negatively hypothesize .that there is no significant relationship between personal profile and reasons of smoking; personal profile and social behaviors. The data needed for the study were gathered by means of questionnaire that were developed and administered respectively to forty-four college students of students of DMMMSU-Agoo during the second semester of the school year 2001-2002. The study was descriptive-correlation in design. It described to some extent the profile of the respondents in terms of gender, age, civil status, religion, family income and personal features and how these variables related to the dependent variables in terms of reasons of smoking and social behaviors. To test the hypothesis of the study, the statistical tools employed were the weighted mean, frequency, percentage, ranking and correlation matrix. The following were the salient findings: Majority of the respondents are male, single and are between the ages of 19 and 20. Most of the respondents are Roman Catholic in religion and belongs to the family whose income range from P7, 000 to P10, 000. Those respondents often smoke after daily meal and when they have a serious problem. They usually smoke in places where numerous people are present. They are aware of the ill effects of smoking cigarettes and yet they still smoke to show that they are socially accepted in the group and feel the sense of belongingness. There is a significant relationship between personal profile and reasons of smoking: personal profile and social behaviors.Publication Difficulties encountered by the general science student teachers at DMMMSU-SLUC-LHS 2001-2002(Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State Univeristy - South La Union Campus, 2002-03) Rigua, Michelle S.; Sebastian, Joan S.; Ventura, Jinnalyn P.; Vergara, Jenalyn S.This study was conducted primarily to determine the difficulties encountered by the General Science student teachers of DMl\11v[SU-SLUC-LHS. Single factorial experiment following the Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with four treatments and replicated three times as follows: Variety I T0- Control/pure commercial feeds T1- 30% cassava meal + 70% commercial feeds T2- 40% cassava meal + 60% commercial feeds T3- 50% cassava meal + 50% commercial feeds Variety II T0- Control/pure commercial feeds T1- 30% sweet potato meal +70 % commercial feeds T2- 40% sweet potato meal + 60% commercial feeds T3- 50% sweet potato meal + 50% commercial feeds A total land area of 6x6 square meters was used in the experimental site. The study was conducted at Barangay Damortis, Rosario, La Union from December 14, 2001 to February 29, 2002. A two way ANOV A set at 0.05 and 0.01 levels of significance was used to determine the significant variation among the treatments. Duncan's Multiple Range Test was used to find out where the significant difference lies among the treatments. There was no significant differences on the effect of different proportions of root crops of ducks in terms of weight gain, feed consumption and feed conversion efficiency. The two varieties have comparable performance among the different treatments employed. The result of the study showed that 50% root crops + 50% commercial feeds attained the highest total gain of the ducks. The control/pure commercial feeds are the highest feed consumed. Ducks under T3 is the lowest feed converter and most efficient while ducks under To got the highest feed conversion ratio and yet in efficient feed converter. 50% cassava meal and 50% sweet potato meal can be a good feed supplement for ducks. It can be recommended to poultry raisers as a better substitute to reduce very expensive cost of commercial feeds, nowadays. It is also found out to be the best treatment or proportions suited for the performance of ducks compared to other supplement usedPublication A study on number readiness of grade 1 pupils(Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State Univeristy - South La Union Campus, 2004) Estrada, Mary Jean; Habos, Mary Grace; Jarata, Jovelyne; Laroco, Reginald; Zamoranos, Dyna JoyThis is a descriptive study which determined the performance rating on the basic math concepts, of Grade I pupils of Agoo East Central School, who went to preschool and those who did not undergo during school year 2002-2003. There are five sections of Grade I pupils, having 112 respondents who went-to preschool and there are 32 respondents who did not undergo preschool. The test form prepared by the researchers served as the main instrument in gathering the needed data. It has SIX parts: the describing/exploration; sorting/classification; spatial relations; numerical construction; arithmetic operations; and ordering seriation. The researchers analyzed and compared the achievement score of the two groups. Correlation was used in determining whether there is significant relationship on the performance rating on the Basic Math Concept between pupils who attended preschool and pupils who did not undergo preschool. Respondents who went to preschool answered the different basic math concepts easily. They are good in reading figures and they find it easy to understand the test questions that were given. Respondents who did no.. undergo preschool education find difficulty in solving mathematical operations and concepts. It is also difficult for them to read and write figures, thus, they got lower scores,Publication Areas of difficulties of DMMMSU-SLUC, college of education BSE IV general science majors in selected topics in genetics(Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State Univeristy - South La Union Campus, 2004) Genetiano, Arlinda V.; Jaime, Ronnie S.; Mapalo, Michael U.; Mendoza, Josephine D.This study determined the areas of difficulties of D:rv1MMSU-SLUC,College of Education BSE IV General Science Majors in selected topics in Genetics in Agoo, La Union during the school year 2003-2004. Specifically, it, sought to answer the following questions: (I) What is the profile of the students in terms of sex, parents' educational attainment, monthly family income, number of siblings in the family, and their grade point average? (2) Their level of knowledge in seven areas of Genetics such as; Monohybrid Genetic Cross, Dihybrid Genetic Cross, Central Dogma of Molecular Genetics, Physical Basis of Heredity, Relation of Sex to Inheritance and Lethal Genes, Probability and Goodness of Fit, and Genetics of Human Blood Group (3) Is there a significant relationship between sex, parents' educational attainment, monthly family income, and number of siblings as to their test scores in the performance test? (4) Is there a significant relationship between the students' grade point average in Genetics and their test scores in the performance test? It also tested the following two null hypotheses: (1) There is no significant relationship between the students profile as to sex, parents' educational attainment, monthly family income, and number of siblings in the family and their test scores in the performance test. (2) There is no significant relationship between the students' grade point average and their test scores in the performance test. This study made use of descriptive correlation method of research. It consisted of 17 BSE IV students from Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University Southern La Union Campus Agoo, La Union. Questionnaires were used in gathering data particularly on student related factors. To determine the level of knowledge of students in Genetics a performance test was utilized on February 27, 2004. Statistical tools such as frequency counts, percentages, mean, and Pearson Product Moment Correlation using the :MICROSTAT program of software were used. The data obtained in the study revealed the following findings. (1) Based on the data gathered, there were 7 (or 41.18 percent) male student subjects and 10 (or 58.82 percent) female student subjects. As to their father and mothers' educational attainment there were 11 (or 64.71 percent) and 9 (or 52.94 percent) respectively were in the bracket of those who went some years in college and high school or were graduated in high S,9RoOI.With regards to their monthly family income there were 10 (or 58.82 percent) who belonged to a family whose income ranged from P 6,000 and below. Most of the students (8 or 47.06 percent) belonged to a family with 4 to 6 siblings. As to their grades in Genetics only one got a general percentage average of2.0. (2) The study revealed that the students performed moderate in most areas of Genetics like Monohybrid Genetics Cross, Physical Basis of Heredity, Genetics of Human Blood and Probability and Goodness of Fit. The student seems to find difficulties in three left areas, The Central Dogma of Molecular Genetics, Dihybrid Genetic Cross, and the Relation of Sex to Inheritance and Lethal Genes. (3) The computed Pearson Product Moment Correlation of Coefficient of the variables like sex, parents' educational attainment, monthly family income, and number of siblings are lesser than the critical value of 0.41340 at 0.05 level of significance. (4) The Pearson Product Moment Correlation of Coefficient in their grade point average in Genetics is greater than the critical value of 0.41340 at level of significance. Based on the findings, the following conclusions were made (1) Most of the BSE IV General Science major students in DM1vfMSU-SLUC, Agoo La Union are female and most of their parents have a better educational attainment. Most of them have a low monthly family income and belong to a family with 4-6 children. (2) The BSE IV General Science major students find three areas of Genetics the Central Dogma of Molecular Genetics, Dihybrid Genetic Cross, and the Relation of Sex to Inheritance and Lethal Genes is considered to be the most difficult. (3) There was no significant relationship exist between their scores in Genetics and their sex, parents' educational attainment, monthly family income, and number of siblings in the family. (4) A significant relationship exists between their Grade Point Average and their test scores in different areas of Genetics.
