Publication The effects of different inoculants of peanut(Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University - South La Union Campus, 1992-03) Raguidin, Rey S.This study was conducted to find out the effects of different inoculants on peanut with pure (peanut), soybean, bean and mungo on peanut plant without the application of any inorganic commercial fertilizer.Publication The effects of different holding solutions in lengthening the Vaselife of Chrysanthemum Cutflowers (Chrysanthemum Morifolium)(Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University - South La Union Campus, 1997-03) Tingco, Elsienora C.; Paragas, Cherry P.This study was conducted to determine the effects of different holding solutions in lengthening the vaselife of chrysanthemum cutflowers. The seven holding solutions which correspond to the seven treatments were: To - water as the control; -10 ml of Cocogro per 500 ml solution; T2 - 20 ml of Cocogro per 500 ml solution; T3 - 50 ml of Cocogro per 500 ml solution; T4 - 10 ml coconut water per 500 ml solution; T5 - 20 ml coconut water per 500 ml solution; and T6 - 50 ml coconut water per 500 ml solution. Following the Completely Randomized Design, the treatment were replicated three times. The Analysis of Variance and tha Duncan’s Multiple Range Test were used to test the differences among the treatments. Several methods were used such as flower cutting and collection, cleaning and preparation of bottles, and application of the treatments making the experiment possible. Findings showed that treatment 6 is significantly different from other treatments in terms of the number of days before the flowers wilted as revealed in the Duncan’s Multiple Range Test. All other treatments except were found to be insignificant with each other. This further implies that had the longest vaselife duration of the cutflowers. It also showed that ranks second in terms of number of detached ray-flowers within two weeks. Total number of detached ray-flowers revealed an insignificant result among the given treatments. This further implies that number of detached ray-flowers did not affect the longevity of the vaselife of chrysanthemum cutflowers.Publication Effects of black boxing duration on the hatching performance of silkworm egg(Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University - South La Union Campus, 1998-03) Agas, Luzviminda S.; Navera, Toni Jean G.This experimental study was conducted at DMMMSU-NLUC. Bacnotan, - La Union from December 1996 to January 1997, to determine the effects of black boxing duration on the hatching performance of silkworm eggs. Specifically, it sought to answer the following questions: 1. What is the effect of black boxing duration on the hatching performance of silkworm eggs In terms of: a.) percentage nurnber of hatched eggs b.) percentage number of unhatched eggs, and c.) percentage number of dead eggs 2. What is the best black boxing duration on the hatching performance of silkworm eggs? There were 9 layings which were distributed Into 3 treatments: T1- 2 days, T2- 3 days (control), and T3- 4 days. The Completely Randomized Design (CRD) was used in this study. The Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) was used to determine whether the differences betwen and among treatment means is significant set at 0.05 and O.O~ levels. The, Duncan's Multiple Range Test (DMRT) was also us to analyze further the' differences within the treatments. To determine the effect of black boxing duration, counting was done as to the color of the eggs: milky white color- hatched eggs; black color-hatched eggs; and brown color- dead eggs. This was done by using microscopes. According to our findings, T1 and T2 are the best duration of -black boxing because they have the higher percentage number of hatched eggs. In T1 98% of hatched eggs were produced, while T2 has 99% of hatched eggs. This means that both T1 and T2 are comparable and either treatment could be used in synchronizing egg hatching. According to our findings two days and three days are the best duration of black boxing because they have the highest percentage number of hatched eggs. On the other hand, T3 (4 days) or prolonged black boxing affects the hatching performance of silkworm eggs. The longer H was subjected to black boxing, the more dead and/ or unhatched eggs result.Publication Comparative study of commercial feeds on the weight performance of newly weaned pigs(Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University - South La Union Campus, 1998-03) Alva, Lea M.The study was conducted to determine which brand of commercial feeds gave the best result in terms of the total gain in weight, total weight, total feed consumption, and final feed conversion efficiency of the animals. The Completely Randomized Design (CRD) was used in this study. There were four brands of commercial feeds used, namely: T1-B-meg, T2-Purina, T3-Vitarich, Ta-Selecta feeds. There were 12 piglets used and three piglets were placed in each treatment. Each piglet represented a treatment. Results showed that there were no significant variations in the initial weight of the weanlings, final weight, total gain in weight, total feed consumption. However, feed conversion efficiency of the animals was affected by the different brands of commercial feeds. Generally, pigs given Purina feeds registered the highest mean in terms of total feed consumption, total gain in weight, and final weight of the animals. However, pigs given Selecta feeds (T4) had the highest mean as far as feed conversion' efficiency is concerned. This indicates that any of the different brands of commercial feeds can be used depending on the current price of these feeds in the market. However, scientists in St. Louis, Missouri (1982) reported and claimed that Purina registered the best results in their experiment. Their findings corroborate with the results of this study. There are no conclusive results as to which brand of commercial feeds should be suitable for the weanlings. It is, therefore, recommended that further study on the use of different brands of commercial feeds be conducted.Publication The effects of spacing on the yield of mungo (Phaseolus radiatus L.)(Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University - South La Union Campus, 1998-03) Batrina, Raquel J.This study was designed to determine the effects of spacing on the yield of mungo. The Randomized Complete Block Design was used with four treatments and replicated three times. The following treatments were as follows: Treatment 0 - control (broadcast); Treatment 1 - 10 om spacing; Treatment 2 - 20 cm spacing; and Treatment 3 - 3O cm spacing. The study was conducted at Brgy. Ambalangan Dalin, San Fabian pangasinan from December 1, 1997 to January 25, 1998. The total land area is 15 square meters which was divided into three plots to represent the three blocks and the four treatments. Each treatment has 21 hill a and each hill has three seeds planted. Watering was done twice a week. Inseoti9ide: (Malathion and Antracol)was sprayed to eliminate pests and control diseases. The fruits per treatment were weighed and counted Statistical computations showed that spacing did not significantly affect the yield of mungo in terms of number.Publication Lifestyle of male homosexuals in two selected towns(Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University - South La Union Campus, 1998-05) Basco, Remedios E.; Panergo, Esther S.; Rivera, Rosalina M.The study is entitled ''Lifestyles of male homosexuals in two selected towns." There were fifty male homosexuals from Agoo, La Union and San Fabian Pangasinan. The study made used of the descriptive method. The data were obtained through questionnaire, interviews and actual observations. The questionnaire consist of personal profile/background information regarding their age, position, occupation, monthly income, number of siblings and ethnic origin and religious sect. The second [part deal on their lifestyles and perceived factors that influenced them. The data gathered, were collated and are presented in tabular form. Average weighted means, frequencies and percentage were computed. The results of the study regarding their lifestyles shows that they received low income they prioritize spending for food which is the basic needs and the rest of their income are given to their family for financial support. They have strong attraction to the same sex rather than the opposite sex. In terms of their sexual practices, they preferred one lover and the duration of relationship, majority last for three years. The problems as being rejected by love ones rank number one followed by made fun ot: felt unloved, felt isolated and lovers taken advantage of them in descending order. Majority of them prefer women clothes and they prefer to become real woman. The environment has a strong influenced on them and their peers or friend has also strong influenced on them to become homosexuals. Since majority exhibited the characteristics of a women like attracted to males, having effeminate actions and effeminate voice so, they felt that they have the tendency to became a real woman. As regard age of respondents, majority are 21-25 years old. Majority of them are the 3 n1 child in the family with 3 sisters and 2 brothers respectively. In terms of ethnic origin majority are Ilocanos and Pangasinenses. Mostly of the respondents are Roman Catholic. Majority of the respondents or 28% a Beauticians. There are 31 respondents or 62% have an income of3,OOOand below. However, there are 3 or 6% earn 9,000 to 11,000 a month.Publication Peformance of ducklings (Anas bosches) on different feed supplements(Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University - South La Union Campus, 1999-03) Untalan, MaribelThis study aimed to determined which of the different feed supplements would gave the best growth and weight performance of ducklings, when mixed with commercial feeds. It was conducted at Cabilocaan, Colasiao, pangasinan from November 15 to January 15, 1999.Publication The effects of different legumbre solutions on the growth and yield of okra (Hibiscus esculentus L.)(Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University - South La Union Campus, 1999-03) Estoque, Jocelyn A.; Ventura, Gerwina M.This study was conducted to determine how legumbre solutions affect the growth and yield of okra plants. Growth was measured in terms of height of plants and yield was expressed in terms of weight and number of fruits harvested. The Randomized Completely Blocked Design had eight treatments consisting of T1- control, T2 - ipil-ipil legumbre solution, T3 - kamatsile legumbre solution, T4 - narra legumbre solution, T5 - sampalok legurnbre solution, T6 - katuray legumbre solution, T7 - sitaw legumbre solution, T8 - madre cacao legumbre solution. Each treatment had 4 replication. A total land area of 90 square meters was used as the experimental site. The study was conducted at Magsaysay, Tubao, La Union from November 5, 1998 to January 15, 1999. The Analysis of Variance set at 0.05 and 0.01 levels of significance was used to determine if there were significant variations among the treatments. For significant results in the ANOVA, the Duncan Multiple Range Test ( DMRT ) was applied to find out which at the 8 treatments were significantly different from each other. Based on final height, Treatment 2,3 and 6 have significantly better effects on height as compared to other treatments. However, treatment 2 ( ipil-ipil legumbre solution) is considered the best fertilizer among them. As to the number of fruits, treatment 6 and 2 obtained higher yields and resulted to significant differences with other treatment. Between these two treatments, treatment 6 is considered to have a better effect on the performance of okra in terms of the number of fruits. With regard to the weight of'fiuit, treatment 6 gave the highest mean yield of 2092.5g which was significantly better than the other treatments. The addition of legumbre solution as fertiliser to okra plant will increase the height, number and yield of fruits.Publication Nutritional status and the academic performance of senior high school students:(Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University - South La Union Campus, 2000-03) Villamin, Catherine C.; Oribello, GinaThis thesis entitled "Nutritional Status and the Academic Performance of Senior High School Students of President Elpidio Quirino National High School, Agoo, La Union, SY 1999 - 2000: A Correlates" was prepared by Catherine C. Villamin and Gina R Onbello under the advisorship of Professor Engracia G. Ronquillo dary school of PEQNHS, and its relationship to their academic performance. More specifically, it sought to answer the following questions: What is the demographic profile of the fourth year high school students of PEQNHS along the following variables; age, sex, family size, family monthly income, parents' educational attainment and parents' occupational level; What is the level of nutritional status of fourth year high school students of PEQNHS along the following variables; weight and height; What is the level of performance of the fourth year students during the school year 1999 - 2000 as reflected in form 137; Is there a significant relationship between the demographic profile of the fourth year high school students and their academic performance and; Is there a significant relationship between the level of nutritional status and their academic performance as to weight and height. This study tested the hypothesis that there is significant relationship between the academic performance and nutritional status of the senior high school students. The descriptive research method with the questionnaire as data gathering instrument was utilized in the research. The respondents consisted of 104 senior high school students. The data obtained through questionnaire were tallied and tabulated in terms of frequency counts and given their corresponding percentages. With the aid variables age, sex, family size, monthly family income, parent' educational attainment and parents' occupational level, height-weight-standards by the FNRI, and the Grade Point Average from first year to third year, the relationship between the academic performance and nutritional status were statistically analyzed using the Chi - Square Test of Independence at .05 level of significance. The salient findings of the study indicate that majority of the respondents age 17 years old. Males outnumber the females. Most respondents belonged to moderate family size. Majority of the respondents' parents fell on the low occupational level. The level of income per- month is from 5,000 to 9,999 and below. Under nutritional profile, the respondents are mostly underweight. There are slightly more normal respondents compared to underheight and overheight. At least 62 of the respondents belonged to average achievers group. There was no significant relationship between the academic performance of the students and that of their nutritional levels both in terms of height and weight. Academic performance was not significantly related to the age, family size, monthly family income, parents' educational attainment, and parents' occupational level. However it was also found out that there is a significant relationship between sex and academic performance of respondents respectively. Consequently, it was concluded that academic performance of the respondents was not influenced by their nutritional levels both in terms of height and weight. Age, family size, monthly family income, parents' educational attainment and occupational level were not the problems regarding academic performance of the students. However, there is a significant relationship between the academic performance of the respondents and that of their sex. It is recommended therefore that schools, especially high schools, should sponsor training courses or workshops in nutrition for students as well as for parents whereby they will learn more about food selection, preparation and serving. technology and Home Economics teachers should be involved in food and nutrition projects. School cafeteria! canteen, should sell only those foods that are nutritious to supplement the home diets. The .school administrators, teachers and the students themselves should plan and implement programs to improve the nutritional status of the students. Nutrition education should be given top priority in the implementation of the DECS curricular thrusts. A thorough follow up of their academic underachievers should be part of the regular supervisory program.Publication Bacteriological analysis of drinking water at four selected areas of dagupan city(Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University - South La Union Campus, 2000-03) Navarro, Jocelyn B.; Borja, Reynaliza G.This study was conducted at Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University, Southern La Union Campus, Agoo, La Union from November 1, 1999 to January 8, 2000. Dispo and Marivic C. Layman did this thesis entitled "Development of Worksheets in Determinants". Their adviser is Professor Corazon F. Regacho. They constructed worksheets in determinants to help and guide the students develop their mathematical skills like analyzing, interpreting and solving exercises and problems in Linear Algebra under the topic Determinants. It will also serve as an additional reference material in studying the topic on Determinants in Linear Algebra. This study aimed to answer the following questions: 1.) How valid are the worksheets in Determinants? 2.) What is the impact of the development of worksheets in Determinants to education? This study used the research and development (R and D) under the descriptive evaluative research design method. A questionnaire was used to evaluate the content validity of the worksheets. In the development of the worksheets. the following steps were followed by the researchers: 1.) Planning and Organizing, which the researchers gathered various reference materials and relevant facts and information about Determinants and formatting the worksheets. 2.) Writing the worksheets. which includes editing and evaluating the trial form of the worksheets. The content validity of the material was done through the evaluation of five (5) mathematics teachers in Linear Algebra and College Algebra. Weighted mean was used in computing the data gathered. Results were tabulated and corrections and suggestions were considered in writing the final form of the worksheets. From the computation results. it was found out that the worksheets weighted mean is 4.29 which falls on the bracket 3.60-4.59 in the rating scale, which is ''very adequate". This means that the content validity of the material has a very high rating. This indicates that each objective are specific and detailed, clear, and the stated objectives are attainable, to those Who will take up Linear Algebra on the topic Determinants. It is also useful and appropriated for college students. As the result of this study, it is recommended to undergo a try-out to students who will take up Linear Algebra for the reliability and effectiveness of the material. Also, continuous revisions for the worksheets for further improvement of the worksheets. Conclusions From table 1, we can say that the worksheets are suitable and related to the ability level of students who will take up Linear Algebra on the topic Determinants. It is also useful and appropriate to college students. From table 2, we can conclude that most of the worksheets developed are okay, only few of the worksheets had corrections. From the tabulated data on the Validators Evaluation of the Worksheets, we can say that the worksheets are highly valid as attested by the five competent teachers in Linear Algebra and College Algebra. The impact to education on the development of worksheets in Determinants is to have an improved teacher-student ratio, substantial use of seminars, tutorials, colloquia, consortia, and an improved method of evaluation, to test not only the student's scholastic achievement but also his ability to do critical thinking and use of knowledge required. It has been an accepted aim also to train students to acquire proficiency to discuss and discover as well as to debate and defend in areas of knowledge that they have acquired. In short, curricular assessment and redesigning, includes use of suitable textbooks and other instructional materials, improved and tested teaching methods and adequate evaluation techniques.Publication Problem-solving difficulties in mathematics of the senior students of Amadeo Perez Sr. national high school(Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University - South La Union Campus, 2000-03) Liberato, Catherine C.; Garcia, Evelyn M.This study was conducted to determine the Mathematical Problem-Solving difficulties of senior students of Amadeo Perez Sf. National High School. Binmeckeg, Sison, Pangasinan during the school year 1999 - 2000. Specifically, it sought to answer the following: What are the Mathematical problem-solving difficulties of the sefiior students of Amadeo Perez Sr. National High School in terms of: mathematical expressions, analysis skills, synthesis and general skills? What is the relationship between students' mathematical problem-solving difficulties and the following selected variables: personal profile ( sex, age, parents' educational attainment, reading materials and mass media ) , attitude profile (attitude towards math as a subject and attitude towards their teacher)? To what extent does each of the subdimensions of problem-solving difficulties of the students affect one another? The study tested the following hypothesis; There is no significant relationship between the students' problem-solving difficulties and the selected variables as: personal profile and attitude profile. There is no significant reL1tionship among the sub dimensions of the mathematical problem-solving difficulties of the students. The respondents in this study were 62 senior students enrolled during the school year 1999-2000. The study made use of the descriptive method of research. Data were generated through the student'}' responses to a questionnaire on difficulties encountered. The responses were tallied, tabulated and analyzed in terms of frequency counts, percentage, ranking weighted means. Correlation analysis was used to determine the extent of relationship between students profile and the intercorrelation of the subdimensions. All computations were done through the use of the statistical tools while all tests of hypothesis was carried through the .05 level of significance. The major findings of the study were the following: The students' profile like sex, age and parents' educational attainment had no relationship with the difficulties met by the students in the mathematical problem-solving difficulties sub dimensions. Mass media like televisions, radios and newspapers has no significant relationship with the mathematical problem-solving difficulties. Reading materials such as books, worktext and mathematical magazines/journals had nothing to do with their difficulties in analysis skills and synthesis skills but they had a relationship both in mathematical expressions and general skills. The lack of reading materials like mathematical magazines affected their difficulties to understand mathematical terms or expressions that would lead to poor generalizations. Attitude toward') math as a subject and towards their teacher had no relationship with their difficulties in mathematical problem-solving. Results of the correlation analysis revealed that problem') encountered in mat.hematical expressions will not affect their difficulties met in analysis skills, synthesis skills and general skills. It was also found out that if they encountered difficulty in analysis skills, they will also encounter difficulties in synthesis skills and general skills. Moreover, students' failure to analyze the problem situation would lead to poor generalization. From the findings, the following conclusions were drawn: The age, sex, and parents' educational attainment had nothing to do with the difficulties of the students met in mathematical expressions, analysis skills, synthesis skills, and general skills. The attitude towards mathematics as a subject, attitude towards their teacher and mass media had nothing to do with the difficulties encountered by the students in solving mathematical problem-solving. Lack of reading mathematical books, magazmes or journals would affect the students' ability of and that they would encounter difficulties in understanding mathematical terms and generalizing a given facts. Students' difficulty encountered in mathematical expressions had nothing to do in their difficulties in the higher level cognitive tasks such as analysis, synthesis skills and general skills. The students generally had more difficulty in the higher cognitive tasks such as analysis skills, synthesis and general skills. Based on the findings and conclusions of this study, the following set of measures are recommended. Senior students shall he properly guided and motivated through further orientation in the importance of mathematics particularly mathematical expressions, analysis skills, synthesis skills and general skills. Teachers in the secondary level must give emphasis on the importance of the hypothesis and given facts in a problem situation for these lead to a concrete analysis of facts on hand. The school shall encourage the organization of mathematics organization on which mathematically inclined and students can find an extension of their classes activities in a more informal way wherein mathematics organization may be truly functional with the administrators and the mathematics teachers behind the organization. A similar study may be conducted in other schools in order to validate the result of the present study.Publication Performance of two varieties of tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus and Orechromis mossambicus) as affected by different fish meals(Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University - South La Union Campus, 2000-03) Cabe, Glenda J.; Naungayan, Newlin V.This study determined the performance of two varieties of tilapia ( O. niloticus and O. mossambicus ) as affected by different fish meas. A Two-Factorial experiment following the Randomized Completely Block Design ( RCBD ) with four treatments replicated three times was used. The treatment were: T0 Control ( commercial feed ), T1 ( 40% kuhol + 40% rice bran + 10% bread crumbs + 9% kangkong + 1% afsillin), T2 ( 40% kuhol + 40% rice bran + 10% bread crumbs + 9% camote + 1% afsillin ), T3 (40% kuhol + 40% rice bran + 10% bread crumbs + 9% malunggay + 1% afsillin). The study sought to answer the following questions: I. What are the effects of different fish meals on the performance of O. niloticus and O. mossambicus in terms of: a. Increase Fish Length ( cm ) b. Weight gain ( g ) c. Feed Conversion Efficiency ( FCE ) 2. Which fish meal is best for O. niloticus and O. mossambicus growth in terms of. a. Increase Fish Length ( cm ) b. Weight gained ( g ) 3. Which of the tilapia variety ( O. niloticus and mossambicus), has better growth when fed with fish meals? The study was conducted from September 27, to December 24, 1999 at Brgy. Nibaliw, San Fabian, Pangasinan. The methods used were: preparation of food ration, preparation of fishpond/ fishnets, preparation of fish, and care and management of fish. At the end of the study, the findings were the following: For the performance of tilapia, in terms of increase in length after 12 weeks, all the four treatments gave comparable results with a grand mean of 5.864cm length increase. Also both varieties gave comparable length increase. In terms of weight gain, the four feeds used resulted to comparable fish weight gained with grand mean of 124.594g. Both varieties gave comparable weight gain also. For feed conversion efficiency, T3 ( 40% kuhol + 40% rice bran + 10% bread crumbs + 9% malunggay + 1% afsillin ) fed on tilapia was the best feed used since it resulted to highest feed conversion efficiency of 57.942%. However varieties gave comparable feed conversion efficiency with 52.973%. Commercial feed (T0) comes next with 58.635% followed by T1 ( 40% kuhol + 40% rice bran + 10% bread crumbs + 9% kangkong + 1% afsillin ) with 50.637%. The least feed converter were the fishes fed with T2 ( 40%' kuhol + 40% rice bran + 10% bread crumbs + 9% camote + 1% afsillin ) with 49.678%.Publication Sperm head morphology assay of mice treated with different concentrations of Tinospora rumphii Boerl (Makabuhai) crude stem extract(Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University - South La Union Campus, 2000-03) Albay, Marites S.; Cereno, Maricel R.This study dealt with the determination ot the effect of makabuhai crude stem extract on the sperm head morpholoqy of mice. Each treatment was replicated thrice.Publication The mathematics profiency test results of BS math freshmen in relation to certain variables(Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University - South La Union Campus, 2000-03) Volante, Jocelyn D.; Unciano, Vilma R."The Mathematics Proficiency Test Results of BS Math Freshmen in Relation to Certatin Variables" by Jocelyn Dulatri Volante and Vilma Renon Unciano. Prof. Raquel Difuntorum Quiambao, adviser. This study aimed to determine the mathematics proficiency test results (MPTR) of BS Math freshmen in relation to certain variables such as sex, the type of school (elementary and high school) graduated, the highest educational attainment of parents, the attitude towards mathematics, the study habits of students and the fourth year high school mathematics grades. Specifically, the study attempted to determine the profile of the BS Math freshmen of DMMMSU as to the demographic and academic factors, the performance of the students in their fourth year high school mathematics and in their math proficiency test. This study also sought to find if there is any significant relationship between each of the demographic factors and the MPTR of the students. And this study sought to determine the relationship between the fourth year high school math grades and the MPTR of the students. The subject of this study were the 40 selected BS Math freshmen with fourth year high school math grades and MPTR who were enrolled at DMMMSU-SLUC, Agoo, La Union during the first semester of the school year 1999 - 2000. Their fourth year high school math grades were gathered from the :file of records of the Registrar and the MPTR were gathered from the Guidance Counselor's Office of DMMMSU. The instrument used in gathering the personal data of the respondents is the questionnaire and this was formed in a guided-response type. Frequency counts and percentages were used to determine the number of respondents and the distribution of the different responses in the different items. Weighted mean was used to estimate the weight of each item in the rating scale on the attitude profile and study ways as perceived by the respondents. The chi-square test of association was used to determine if there is a significant relationship between each of the demographic profile of the respondents and their MPTR. The pearson-product moment correlation was also used to determine if there is a significant relationship between the fourth year high school math grades and the MPTR of the respondents. When the different responses in the different items from the respondents were considered, it was found out that there were more females than males who took up the proficiency test. Majority of the respondents carne from public school both in elementary and high school. The parents' educational attainment of the respondents were high school graduates. Majority of the respondents agreed on each of the statements under the attitude category and they have a positive reaction to mathematics. Majority of the respondents often did their own ways, manners or methods in studying their lessons. It was also found out that the performance of the respondents in their fourth year high school mathematics is within the average level. But the performance of the respondents in the math proficiency test is below average The chi-square test of association showed no significant relationship in each of the demographic factors such as sex, type of school graduated, educational attainment of parents, attitude towards math and study ways to the MPTR of the respondents at 5% level of significance. A significant correlation was obtained when the fourth year high school math grade range was correlated with the MPTR range. The correlation obtained employing the statistical tool pearson - product moment correlation using grouped data is .56 on which based on the "interpretation of values r" , shows a moderate correlation. This means that when a student got high grade in their math subject, he/she also got high in the math proficiency test but when a student got average or low grade, he/she got also low scores in the said test. Testing its significance at 5% level, the computed t-value of which is 4.11 is greater than the tabulated t-value of2.021 conveying the degree of freedom 38 leading to the rejection of the null hypothesis and accepting the alternative hypothesis. This shows then that there is a significant relationship between the fourth year high school math grades and the MPTR of the respondents. Since sex was not related to MPTR, it can be concluded that both sexes take a part and participate in the math proficiency test. Furthermore, sex does not matter when it comes to performance. Respondents' performance either in public school or private school were equal since the type of school graduated was not related to Iv1PTR. Their parents who finished a degree in high trained their children "conventionally". Respondents' interest about mathematics were agreeable and they feel a positive reaction to mathematics. Respondents often did their own ways, manners or methods of studying. Respondents performed satisfactorily in their fourth year high school math subject but they have low performance in the math proficiency test. The main focus of this paper is the Sources of Stress correlated to course, age, and gender. The respondents of this study are the students of DMMMSU Agoo College of Sciences. The respondents were chosen through random sampling technique, where in there were 200 students who comprised the total sample. Through the used statistical treatment such as frequency distribution, weighted mean, and Kendall's Coefficient of Concordance the result were obtained, comparing the computed value to the tabulated value at alpha .05 level of significance. It had found out that, the course, age, and gender have no significant relationship with stress. The objectives of the study were enumerated as follows: 1. To determine the respondent's profile as to age, gender, course. 2. To determine the sources of stress among the students of the College of Sciences DMMMSU Agoo. 3. Determine the agreement between sources of stress among the students of the College of Sciences DMMMSU Agoo and the identified variables. Finding revealed the followings: As to the sources of stress among the students of the College of Sciences DMMMSU Agoo, there were three sources contributory to their ·stress. These are the physical, psychological, and behavioral source. In view of the aforementioned findings, it was therefore concluded that the identified variables such ages as, course, age, and gender are not significantly related to the sources of stress among the students enrolled in the college of Sciences. The conclusions of this study were stated below: 1. The course of the students does not affect the sources of stress that they encountered. Therefore, BS, Psycho, BS Bio and BS Math students have the same stresses. 2. The age of the students doe~ not affect the sources of stress. Therefore, whatever year age is, it is not necessary in identifying the stress causing factors that the individual encountered. 3. Gender is not related to the sources of stress. Therefore, male and female had the same sources of stress. This study gives the following recommendations: 1. The guidance counselor should make a move to reduce the psychological stressors among the students, so that they could concentrate more on their studies. 2. The students should participate more in guidance and counseling activities to bring about whatever problem they have whether it be academic or personal. 3. The counseling unit of the university should implement program, which will promote stress management among students.Publication Growth performance of bougainvillea spp. cuttings in different soil media(Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University - South La Union Campus, 2001-03) Punzalan, Annalie M.; Marcella, Carmela S.The study determined how the different soil media as potting media affected the growth performance of 2 varieties of bougainvillea cuttings in terms of number of days new shoots appeared, number of shoots appeared and the length of new stems. The two - factorial experiment following the Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) were used with four treatments replicated three times. The following treatments were To - 100% garden soil, TI - 50% garden soil + 50% cocodust, T2 - 50% garden soil 50% ricehull, and T3 - 50% garden soil + 25% cocodust + 25% ricehull. Bougainvillea cuttings were selected from the healthy branches. Each and all of the stem cuttings has three nodes. The basal end was planted at a depth of 10 em. The planted cuttings were placed at a partially shaded area. Watering of the plants was done three times a week. Following the formula of two-way Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) set at 0.05 and 0.0 I levels of significance was used to determine if there is significant differences among the treatments. The Duncan's Multiple Range Test (DMRT) was used further to determine where lies the significance. The result of the study showed significant difference between the 2 varieties of bougainvillea cuttings in terms of number of days new shoots appeared. Variety I (pink) performed better by having lesser number of days for new shoots to appear. The different soil media (potting media) or treatments, variety and the combined effect of variety and treatment did not have significant effect on the number of shoots appeared and length of new stem. Growth performance of the 2 varieties of bougainvillea cuttings is comparable when subjected to different soil media or treatments. Based on the number of shoots appeared, the different soil media (treatments), variety and the combined effect of variety and treatment revealed insignificantly difference. These factors did not have a significant effect on the number of shoots appeared. As to the length of new stems, the different treatments, variety and the combined effect of variety and treatment declared insignificant difference. It implies that these independent variables did not have a significant effect on the length of new stems.Publication Implementation of RHU health programs in Mangaldan, Pangasinan(Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University - South La Union Campus, 2001-03) Aleausin, Luke T.An interview schedule with descriptive survey and structured survey questionnaire were used to gather information about the profile of the respondents and the extent of implementation of the RHU Health Programs in Mangaldan, Pangasinan. The study aimed to know the personal profile of the respondents, the extent of implementation of RIW Health Programs and the relationship between the extent of implementation of RHU Health Programs and the personal profile of the respondents as to age, sex, occupation. income and educational attainment. One hundred ten (110) respondents were randomly chosen 110m ten (10) barangays in Mangaldan, Pangasinan. The data were treated and analyzed through frequency count, percentage. weighted mean, ranking and correlation matrix from the MICROSTAT computer software. Findings showed that majority of the respondents were at 21-50 age bracket Most of them are female and one-half of them are employed. majority of them earn below P 3,000 per month and have attained average level of education, The personal profile of the respondents such as age, sex and occupation were found to be significantly related to the extent of implementation of RHU Health Programs.Publication Acceptability of ube haleya with sweet potato as extender(Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University - South La Union Campus, 2001-03) Estoesta, Rosalie; Fajardo, Pioquinto; Fontanilla, Mailyn; Gayo, Editha; Laguerta, Quirino, Jr.; Mabutas, FrederickThis study aimed to determine the acceptability of Ube Haleya with sweet potato as extender. Specifically, it sought to answer the following questions: 1. What is the degree of difference between the formulated recipe and th " e original recipe in terms of: a. Color and Appearance? b. Texture? c. Flavor and Aroma? 2. Which of the two recipes is preferred, the formulated recipe or the original recipe? 3. What is the difference in the cost of preparation of the formulated recipe and the original recipe compared? The study used the experimenta1 design where convenience or accidental sampling was conducted. The formulated recipe and the original recipe were evaluated by 259 BSE college students of DMMMSU-SLUC, Agoo, La Union. Two sample tests were coded as Sample A and Sample B. To gather data, questionnaires were distributed and were properly accomplished by the 259 respondents. The questionnaire consists of two .parts. The first part consists of the personal profile of the respondents (name, age, sex, civil status) and the second part consists of information about the acceptability of ube haleya with sweet potato as extender. The preference test, hedonic rating scale, weighted mean and analysis of variance (ANOVA) were used for the statistical treatment of the gathered data. FINDINGS: 1. In terms of color and appearance, both recipes fall within the limits of "like very much". The original recipe was favored more than the formulated recipe by the respondents. The respondents highly merited the original recipe in terms of color. The use of sweet potato as extender made the color of the recipe more appealing. 2. The texture of "Ube Haleya with Sweet Potato" was highly accepted by the respondents and was rated; "like extremely", while the original recipe was also accepted and rated "like very much." The formulated recipe was favored more than the original recipe. 3. In terms of flavor and aroma, both recipes fall within the limits of "like very much". The formulated recipe was more appealing than the original recipe by the respondents. The use of sweet potato as an extender improved a bit the taste of the formulated recipe. 4. The formulated recipe or the "Ube Haleya with Sweet Potato" was highly preferred by the respondents over the original recipe. The sweet potato greatly improved the color and appearance, texture, and flavor and aroma of the formulated recipe. 5. The analysis of variance (ANOVA) revealed that there is no significant difference between the formulated recipe and the original recipe in terms of color and appearance, texture, and flavor and aroma. 6. The cost analysis of the formulated recipe and the original recipe indicate that the use of sweet potato as an extender in the recipe did not entail much additional cost to the preparation but improved the properties of the recipe as well as lessened a bit the expenses.Publication Yield performance of sweet potato Ipomoea batatas) using item cutting and storage root as planting materials(Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University - South La Union Campus, 2001-03) Dulce, Marlene G.This study was designed to determine the yield performance of sweet potato as affected by different planting materials. Dakol Variety of sweet potato was used in this study. The treatments used were T1 stem cuttings, T2 whole storage roots, T3 storage roots cut into cubes. The treatments were replicated four times following the single factor experiment in Randomized Complete Block Design. The plots were prepared into 1 meter wide and 3 meters long with a total number of 10 ridges per plot. There were 12 plots made, in a total of 100 square meters including alleys in between blocks. Cultural practices such as weeding, and watering were done as needed to maintain the growth of the plant. The findings showed that treatments significantly affected the yield of sweet potato in terms of number of storage roots, weight of storage roots and marketable yield of storage roots. However, these treatments insignificantly affected the non-marketable yield of sweet potato. The out yielded the other treatments in terms of number of storage roots, weight of storage roots, and marketable yield of storage roots. T3 ranked first in terms of nonmarketable storage-roots. The different treatments employed were declared not significant in terms of nonmarketable yield of storage roots. Blocking was found out to be not significant. The coefficient of variation is reliable in terms of number and weight of storage roots, but is quite high in terms of marketable and non-marketable yield of storage roots.
