Abstract
Physical Education (PE) is a comprehensive program that provides a unique learning environment in schools which aims for the holistic development of students through the facilitation of varied types of movement experiences. This qualitative phenomenological study explored the relevant learnings from the Physical Education program from the lens of the professionals’ experiences. Semi-structured interviews were conducted to 15 professionals who are currently managers in their own workplace. Using Colaizzi's method of qualitative data analysis, this study surfaced two general themes which represents the professionals’ PE program experiences of exciting and exacting encounters. These refer to “crowning and downing”, “supporting and striving”, and “gaining and wanting” emerging the 5D’s of relevant learnings from the PE program experience namely: demonstrating excellence, displaying grit, delighting on team spirit, deciding on priorities, and dedicating on fitness. Application of these relevant learnings to the workplace were discussed as revealed by participants.
