The study determined the teachers’ turnover trends of private schools in the City of San Fernando, La Union as a basis for a proposed School-Based Teacher Retention Program. It dealt with the respondents and school profiles; teachers’ turnover trends from 2009-2011; degree of teachers’ turnover as to psychological and administrative causes and relationships of variables. It employed the descriptive research design with sixty-five teachers and 12 school administrators
as respondents.
Majority of the respondents were in their mid 30’s, female, married, llocanos, with salary ranging from 7000-15,000, with license, permanent in status. They have attended seminars. Most schools are situated outside the City proper with excellent school equipment/facilities. The extent of psychological causes of turnover was greatest in self-efficiency while administrative causes were high in low salary/insufficient benefits.
Based on the results of the study, a school-based teachers’ retention program was designed.
