Abstract
Alongside the differences in demographic profile, language mindset and language
anxiety are believed to be predictive variables of language learning outcome. This
descriptive research correlated students' language mindset, their level of language anxiety
and selected demographic variables. This study used Horwitz, E.K., Horwitz, MB., Cope,
J. 's Foreign Language Classroom Anxiety Scale (1986) and Lou & Noels' Language
Mindset Inventory (2019) in collecting the data. Linear regression and Pearson
Correlation Coefficient were used to identify the relationship between demographic profile
and language mindset as well as with demographic profile and language anxiety while
Pearson Correlation Coefficient was used to identify the relationship of student's language
mindset and the level of their language anxiety.
Based on the findings of the study, the respondents manifested an overall language
growth mindset. However, they exhibited a high level of language anxiety which was found
to be significantly but weakly and negatively correlated with their grade level and socioeconomic status. Lastly, no significant relationship was found between language anxiety
and language mindset suggesting that said constructs are independent from each other.
