Abstract
This experimental study determined the growth and yield
performance of mushroom using different bedding materials. Spawns of
Ganoderma lucidum were taken from the Cooperative Mushroom
Production Center at San Anghel, Rosales, Pangasinan. This study was
conducted at Brgy. Palacpalac, Pozorrubio, Pangasinan from September
to December 2004.
Single factor Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) was
employed in the study with four treatments consisting of different
bedding materials and replicated four times.
The treatments were as follows: Treatment 0 (control]- 68%
sawdust+30% rice bran +1% brown sugar +1% lime: Treatment 1-
68%corn meal +30% rice bran + 1% brown sugar + 1% lime: Treatment
2- 68% banana leaves + 30% rice bran + 1% brown sugar + 1% lime and
Treatment 3- 68% ipil-ipil leaves + 30% rice bran + 1% brown sugar + 1%
lime.
Growth was determined in terms of diameter of the mushroom cap
while yield was measured in terms of number of harvest and weight of
harvest.
The Analysis of Variance (ANOVA)set at 0.05 and 0.01 levels of
significance was used to determine any significant difference between
treatments.
Results of the study showed that mushrooms with the widest
diameter of the caps were produced from the bedding materials in
Treatment 0 (control) containing sawdust. Highest number of harvest
and heaviest weight of mushrooms were also obtained from Treatment 0
(control).
