Abstract
Decision-making is an integral part of daily interactions. Personal traits, on the other hand affect the way we think and decide. Police officers are responsible in maintaining public order and safety, enforcing the law, and preventing, detecting, and inves tigating criminal activities. This study aims to examine the dominant personality traits and decision-making styles of the police officers at Rosario, La Union, and also to determine the relationship of their demographic profile and their personality traits including their decision-making styles. The respondents of the study were the thirty-one (31) police officers designated at Rosario, La Union. To answer the five specific objectives, percentages, descriptive statistics, chi- square test, Cramer's V were employed in the collected data, respectively. Results revealed that most of respondents were young, male, single, no children, and new to the organization as police ofJicers with a rank of patrolman/patrolwoman. The dominant personality traits of the respondents were the low extraversion followed by high openness. Using median, intuitive, and dependent decision-making styles dominantly the decision-making styles with agreeable level of decision-making styles of the respondents. Using chi-square test and Cramer's V, only rank or position of the respondents has a strong significant relationship with conscientiousness personal trait. Between profile and decision-making style, respondents' rank has a strong significant relationship with dependent and rational decision-making style. The respondents' number of years in service has a strong relationship as well with dependent and rational decision-making styles, significantly. As to relationship of personality traits and decision-making style, there were only three (3) personality traits that has a strong stgnificant relationship with the decisionmaking styles namely: between openness and rational; between agreeableness and intuitive, spontaneous, and avoidant; neuroticism and intuitive, and avoidant.
