Abstract
This study conducted at Sta Rita Central from September 28 to December 25,
2002, aimed to determine the effect of indigenous materials at different concentration of
the control of golden snail. It made use of CRD (two factorial) using four- (4) treatment
and three (3) replication with three different concentrations.
As to mortality, T1 (powdered hot pepper fruits) used in golden kuhol resulted to
the deaths of all the golden kuhol. The number of deaths was followed by the number of
deaths in T4 using papaya leaves then by ,T3 using neem leaves and finally by using T2
labtang leaves. As to concentration, all the concentration used gave comparable effect on
mortality of golden kuhol.
As to combination of treatment and concentration the best combinations were
from T1 C1 (100 grams of pepper), T1 C2(200 grams pepper) and T1 C3 (300 grams pepper)
in causing deaths of golden kuhol.
On the number of hours exposure of dead golden kuhol to the different
treatment,T3(neem leaves) gave the longest duration of time followed by, T2 (labtang
leaves), T1 ( hot pepper fruit, and T4(papaya leaves) However, when subjected to
ANOVA, the differences among treatment were significant.
For concentration, C3 using 300 grams concentration of the different treatment
gave the highest hours of exposure to the dead golden kuhol. It was followed by 200
grams concentration of indigenous waste. The least exposed indigenous waste
concentration was 100 grams. These differences among concentration however were
found insignificant when tested with ANOVA.
The differences of time of exposure to the dead kuhol between treatment and
concentration combinations are also insignificant.
Based on the finding of the study, the following conclusions were derived. As to
the effect of the different indigenous wastes on the number of deaths of golden kuhol,
Treatment 1 or the use of powdered hot pepper fruits is the most effective indigenous
wastes on the control of the population of golden kuhol, followed by papaya leaves, neem
leaves and the least is labtang leaves.
For concentrations, 100 g, 200 g, and 300 g, concentration of indigenous waste
had comparable effect to the number of dead golden kuhol.
As to the time of exposure of dead golden kuhol, the different indigenous waste
were exposed to dead golden kuhol of comparable length of time, also the 3
concentration of indigenous waste gave comparable length of time exposure to the dead
golden kuhol.
The following were the recommendations made. The use of indigenous material s
especially powdered pepper fruit as potentiaJ substitute to chemical molluscicide to
control golden kuhol population. For economic reason however,
papaya leaves is recommended, Similar study maybe replicated under farmer's field for
verification of results.
