Abstract
Science develops students’ critical thinking and good attitudes which are very useful to the personal development, future career, and life of a student.
This study determined the biology proficiency of the Junior High School Science Teachers in the Second Congressional District of La Union in terms of their scientific knowledge and scientific attitude. A descriptive method, using cluster random sampling, was employed to assess the level of biology proficiency of the respondents concentrating on two domains: the scientific knowledge and scientific attitude. These were correlated to their profile using the Pearson (*) Correlation.
The findings of the study showed that Junior School Science teachers have poor rating on their biology proficiency test but possess a positive attitude towards teaching science. Moreover, teaching experience and number of trainings attended positively associated and contributed much to the level of proficiency of the respondents while educational background moderately contributed to the scientific attitude of the respondents.
