Abstract
Researches reveal that statistical analysis is difficult to grip over and is therefore one reason for researchers to discontinue doing research. Thus, this study which utilized ex post facto experimental design, and which aimed to determine the level of competence of teachers in using basic statistical tools in research before and after the training. A questionnaire was used to identify the profile of teacher-participants as to highest educational attainment, years of teaching, researches conducted, published, and presented, and trainings attended. Competence of teachers was identified using a test. Teachers’ profile was analyzed using frequencies and percentages, and pre-test and posttest was analyzed using mean and compared using t-test.
Results showed that most teachers are masters degree holder and taught research from 0-2 years. Likewise, teachers have conducted, published, and presented Jew researches and attended limited trainings. In general, their competence increased after the training making the training significant. Therefore, the training is effective in enhancing teachers competence in using basic statistical tools in research.
