Abstract
Reyes, Catherine E. (2024). Effects of Coconut Oil as Growth Booster and Carcass Quality for Broiler. Bachelor of Science in Agriculture. Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University - North La Union Campus, College of Agriculture, Bacnotan, La Union. Adviser: Tattao, Rosemarie O., M.S. The broiler industry faces the challenge of high feed costs and thus seeks cost effective supplements such as coconut oil. Due to its abundance of medium-chain fatty acids (MCFA), coconut oil shows promise as an alternative to traditional plant protein sources in broiler diets. By supplementing coconut oil, commercial chicken feed can benefit both economically and nutritionally. Hence, this study was conducted to investigate the effect of different levels of coconut oil on broiler growth performance, dressing percentage, carcass parameters, and profitability. Sixty broilers were divided into four groups: Control (T0), 4% (T1), 6% (T2), and 8% (T3) coconut oil per kilogram of feeds, with three replications. The findings revealed that birds fed with varying levels of coconut oil has improved its growth performance and carcass quality. Notably, the group supplemented with 8% coconut oil exhibited significantly higher weight gain and profitability, surpassing costs associated with feed, coconut oil, and stock. These results underscore the potential of coconut oil as a valuable component in optimizing broiler production economics and performance.
