Abstract
This study determined the bacteriological analysis of groundwater
in selected areas of DMMMSU, Agoo, La Union. It was conducted in April,
May, July and August 2004. Most Probable Number (MPN) of total
coliform and fecal coliform present in 100 mL water sample were
obtained using the standard laboratory procedures at the BFAR- NIFTDC
Microbiological Laboratory, Dagupan City. Results were compared with
the Standard established by the National Standards for Drinking Water
of the Philippines (NSDW) and World Health Organization.
The Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) set at 0.05 and 0.01 levels of
significance was used to determine any significant difference.
Results indicate that all four sources of water in the College
Canteen, Natural Sciences Department, Boys' Dorm, and Girls' Dorm
during the months of April, May, July and August 2004 did not pass the
standard of zero total coliform and fecal coliform MPN per 100 mL of
water based on the standard set by the NSDW and WHO. Water samples
from the four sources during the four months of the study contain
comparable number of pathogenic total and fecal coliform bacteria.
