Abstract
Water is a vital resource, yet access remains a challenge for many rural communities, particularly in the mountainous regions of the Philippines. The Hydraulic Ram Pump (HRP) offers a sustainable solution by utilizing the hammering effect to transfer water to higher elevations without relying on fuel or electricity. This study focused on designing and fabricating HRPs while evaluating their performance, specifically maximum discharge height and pump efficiency, based on input and output flow rates. Two configurations, -inch and 14-inch ram pumps, underwent 15 experimental trials to assess the impact of design variables. Results showed that higher source elevations increase system pressure, while larger pipe diameters boost water flow and waste valve cycling. For every 0.4-meter elevation gain, a l-psi pressure increase was observed. enhancing lift height. This study highlighting the HRP as a cost effective solution, is conducted in Pagdalagan, City of San Fernando, La Union, from September 2024 to April 2025.
