Abstract
Bubble wrap, a widely used packaging material introduced in the late 1950s, has revolutionized the protection of fragile products during transit and storage. However, its durability and reliance on single-use plastics contribute significantly to environmental issues. The improper disposal and increasing volume of bubble wrap waste exacerbate the global plastic waste problem, particularly from e-commerce. In response to this challenge, the researchers developed a machine designed to shred bubble wrap and repurpose it into plastic pipes. This initiative aims to address plastic waste management, promote sustainability, and offer a more environmentally friendly alternative for pipe production in various applications. The machine's performance was evaluated by measuring production time, throughput capacity, and overall efficiency. Data collection involved five trials are done in the shredding process and the same with the molding process. Results showed an average throughput capacity of 0.854 feet per hour, a shredding efficiency of 69.1%, and an overall machine efficiency of 66.7%. The shredding component demonstrated the highest efficiency, highlighting its critical role in the machine’s performance. This study presents a sustainable solution to plastic waste, contributing to environmental preservation and resource innovation.
