Abstract
This study determined the effects of different proportions of cassava and sweet potato
meal a feed supplement to ducklings in terms of weight gain, feed consumption and feed
conversion efficiency.
Single factorial experiment following the Randomized Complete Block Design
(RCBD) with four treatments and replicated three times as follows:
Variety I
T0- Control/pure commercial feeds
T1- 30% cassava meal + 70% commercial feeds
T2- 40% cassava meal + 60% commercial feeds
T3- 50% cassava meal + 50% commercial feeds
Variety II
T0- Control/pure commercial feeds
T1- 30% sweet potato meal +70 % commercial feeds
T2- 40% sweet potato meal + 60% commercial feeds
T3- 50% sweet potato meal + 50% commercial feeds
A total land area of 6x6 square meters was used in the experimental site. The study
was conducted at Barangay Damortis, Rosario, La Union from December 14, 2001 to
February 29, 2002.
A two way ANOV A set at 0.05 and 0.01 levels of significance was used to determine
the significant variation among the treatments. Duncan's Multiple Range Test was used to
find out where the significant difference lies among the treatments. There was no significant
differences on the effect of different proportions of root crops of ducks in terms of weight
gain, feed consumption and feed conversion efficiency. The two varieties have comparable
performance among the different treatments employed.
The result of the study showed that 50% root crops + 50% commercial feeds attained
the highest total gain of the ducks. The control/pure commercial feeds are the highest feed
consumed. Ducks under T3 is the lowest feed converter and most efficient while ducks under
To got the highest feed conversion ratio and yet in efficient feed converter.
50% cassava meal and 50% sweet potato meal can be a good feed supplement for
ducks. It can be recommended to poultry raisers as a better substitute to reduce very
expensive cost of commercial feeds, nowadays. It is also found out to be the best treatment or
proportions suited for the performance of ducks compared to other supplement used
