Abstract
Broiler producers face high feed costs due to imported ingredients, affecting 70% of production expenditure. Identifying cost-effective feed alternatives is crucial for industry sustainability. Bignay wine, contains total phenolics, anthocyanins, vitamin C, and flavonoids, that would enhance broiler growth through improved feed digestibility. This study aimed to determine the growth performance, carcass characteristics and profitability of broilers with Bignay Wine. Sixty (60) day-old chicks were distributed in four (4) treatments: control (100% commercial feeds), 15ml Bignay Wine (T1|), 25ml Bignay Wine (T2), 35ml Bignay Wine (T3) with three blocks following the Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) having five (5) birds per cage and three (3) replications. The study revealed that 35ml of bignay wine led to a significant result on the final weight, gain in weight, feed conversion ratio, feed and water consumption, pre-slaughter weight, weight of heart, liver, intestine, gizzard and profit above feed, medicine, and stock cost. This implies that bignay as feed additive contributes in improving the growth performance & carcass characteristics and profitability of the broiler production.
