Abstract
This study was conducted to determine the growth and survival of large leaf mahogany as affected by different mulching materials. It was conducted at the Institute of Agriculture, DMMMSU-Rosario, La Union from June 22 to December 22, 2005. The study was laid out in a Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with three (3) treatments as follows: M0 – unmulched, M1 – ricehull, and M2 – dried banana leaves. The study revealed that there were no significant effects of mulching on the total height and monthly increment, total diameter and monthly increment, number of leaves, biomass production and percentage survival of mahogany seedlings. Mahogany seedlings mulched with rice hull and dried banana leaves resulted to have significantly higher moisture content over the unmulched at 180 DAP.
