Abstract
Botanical insecticides are non-chemical alternatives in controlling insect pests of mungbean. These contain pesticidal properties to control insect pests; hence, this study was conducted to assess the different plant-derived insecticides to control insect pests of mungbean. The study was conducted from January 2017 to April 2017 at San Carlos, Caba, La Union following the Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with three (3) blocks. The eight treatments were as follows: T0 – Control (without spray); T1 – Chemical Insecticide (Sevin 85 WP); T2 – Hagonoy; T3 – Kakawate; T4 – Lagundi; T5 – Lantana; T6 – Makabuhay; and T7 – Marigold.
Results revealed that different botanical insecticides were comparable with the chemical insecticide to control insect pests of mungbean in terms of the population count of mirid bug at vegetative stage, population count of mirid bug and green soldier bug at reproductive stage, percent of fruit infestation, and seed yield.
