Abstract
Selection of soybean variety is one of the most important decision for farmers and it is the foundation of an effective management plan in order to sustain the inadequate supply of the economy. The seven lines LG Sy 02-34-2, LG Sy 02-34-10, LG Sy 02-34-14, LG Sy 02-34-27, LG Sy 9956, LG Sy 63 and NSIC Sy 9 (NC) of soybean were tested to evaluate which lines are high yielding and to identify which are resistant to pest and disease employing RCBD in four blocks at the Agricultural Technology Center Farm, DMMMSU – NLUC, Bacnotan, La Union from November 21, 2014 to February 15, 2015. LG Sy 63 significantly produced the heaviest seed yield (1120.00 g/plot or 1866.67 kg/plot), exhibited the tallest plant (90.47 cm), highest survival rate (95.13%), and longest pod (4.41 cm). But flowered (43.00 days) and matured (83.00 days) the latest. Moreover, the different soybean lines tested have a smaller seed size than the national check, NSIC Sy 9 and were found moderately resistant to insect pests and diseases. There were no marked differences noted on number of seeds per pod.
