Abstract
Pasteurization of mushroom fruiting bags (MFB) is very crucial in the mushroom cultivation. As a solution for problems in traditional method such as high convective loss and fuel demanding, an electric-powered pasteurizer for mushroom fruiting bags was constructed. The study was conducted to design, fabricate, and evaluate electric-powered pasteurizer for Oyster MFB, and perform a simple cost analysis of the machine. Three pasteurizing temperatures were utilized: 60˚C, 70˚C, and 80˚C and three weight of MFB were used: 800g, 900g, and 1000g. Ninety MFB composed of 30 each in every weight of mushroom fruiting bags were used as test materials. The highest machine efficiency was attained at 80˚C with 92.22% with the machine capacity of 90 MFB per batch for five hours. Furthermore, at this temperature, the BEP is 3604 pcs/year, with a PP of 13 productive working days and Benefit Cost Ratio of 1.08.
