Abstract
This study was conducted specially to determine the socio-economic demographic characteristics of the salted egg vendors; source of salted eggs marketing practices; and the problems encountered by the salted egg vendors. There were 40 vendors- respondents from four (4) municipalities of public market in La Union. The data were gathered through personal interview with the aid of an interview schedule. Findings revealed that the salted egg vendors were in their late 40’s, mostly married females with 5 to 6 number of household member. 47.5% of them finished high school education and 20% had pursued college education. About 9.33 years of the respondents the number of years they were engaged in selling salted egg range from 1-16 years. Their buying price of salted egg is based from supplier. Majority (70%) of the respondents sell salted egg from P7.01- P8.00 per piece and one-fourth (25%) of the respondents retailed their salted eggs at P6.00-P7.00 per piece. Only few (5%) sold at higher retailer price from P8.01-P9.00. The average buying price is P5.63 per piece. The selling price of salted egg is based from their supplier which cost P7.00-P10.00 per piece and the average selling price is P6.37 per piece. Pangasinan is the highest producing town of sated egg (25%). The market outlets of salted egg (80%) of the 4 municipalities Agoo, Bauang, San Fernando and Bacnotan are usually in public market. They were engaged in their selling activities daily, and most (80%) preferred from their own savings for their source in capital for selling salted egg. The vendors of salted eggs encountered problem such as high competition among vendors, irregular supply, inadequate knowledge and skills in marketing, high market tax fee high market stall rented, and low price of salted egg. Another problem is the overcrowding in the market, low demand and the sanitation. The rest, which was rated as less serious problem, are lack of government support in term of financial and there are no storage facilities.
