Abstract
This study was conducted specifically to: 1) evaluate the demographic characteristics of bagnet processors; 2) determine the production and marketing practices of bagnet processors; 3) measure the profitability; 4) determine the factors affecting sales of the bagnet processors and 5) determine the problems encountered by bagnet processors.
Complete enumeration technique was employed. The data were gathered through
interview with the aid of survey questionnaire from the 11 respondents.
Findings revealed that the respondents had an average age of 45.77 years. Majorities of the processors-respondents were female married with formal education and with 6 average number of household members. Most of them (27.27%) had high school education and some had vocational / short term courses (27.27%).
Majority of the processor-respondents had a monthly income range of P9, 000- 14,000. In terms of source of pig slaughtered and processed as bagnet, majority of them (54.55%) cited that it came from their own piggery project. In pricing bagnet, most of them (54.55%) claimed that they based it on the pricing practices of other processors who made financial analysis on their product.
The problems encountered by the bagnet processors that were rated serious were highly cost of inputs and high competition, which were rated serious, the problems which were rated less serious were high market stall/space rental and high market tax fees. While those not serious problems were inadequacy of operating capital, lack of storage facilities and lack of raw materials.
