Abstract
Women face challenges in their political engagement around the world, which has long been a source of worry and curiosity. This paper analyzed the political engagement of female barangay kagawads in terms of their experiences and problems, as there are fewer female barangay kagawads than males. This research aims to propose a leadership development program that can improve the political engagement of female barangay kagawads. Methodologically, a descriptive-qualitative approach was utilized, and interviews were conducted among nine female barangay kagawads in the municipality of Tagudin, llocos Sur. Thematic analysis was used to analyze the data, and it was revealed that the participants experienced willingness to serve, community engagement, political party involvement, the role of legislators, and gender dynamics. Meanwhile, the problems encountered were impediments to political progress and political disparit.
