Abstract
The study focused on developing and evaluating an Ilocano learning app for first
graders, integrating technology with early childhood education. It aimed to explore the
potential of adaptive learning systems for personalized user experiences. The primary
objective was to create an Ilocano Learning Mobile app for first-grade students at
DMMMSU ELS and AECES, utilizing Java, XML, Kotlin, and SQLite to provide access to
grade-specific lessons, activities, and quizzes, with performance evaluated via a 5-point
Likert scale.
Findings indicated that the Mobile Application Development Life Cycle (MADLC)
was the most effective framework for developing mobile apps like the Ilocano learning app,
ensuring a systematic and efficient process. Kotlin and Java were used for complex logic
and scalability, XML for user-friendly interactivity, and SQLite for efficient data storage
and retrieval. A mother-tongue teacher curated the app's dataset, ensuring content
relevance and accuracy.
The app's acceptability was evaluated using the Unified Theory of Acceptance and
Use of Technology (UTAUT), with a diverse panel of seven mother-language instructors
and five IT experts. The evaluation resulted in a unanimous "Very High Acceptability"
rating, confirming that the app effectively met user needs and expectations.
