This study investigated the effectiveness of game-based strategies in improving the mathematics performance and engagement of grade 12 ABM learners in understanding the basic accounting concepts and principles. Addressing the common perception that basic accounting as a complex and technical discipline, this research used the one-group pretest posttest pre-experimental design, 42 learners from a government high school participated as respondents. Data were collected from the pretest-posttest that covered topics about the basic accounting concepts and principles, the five major accounts, and the accounting equation. The pretest and posttest scores were analyzed using frequency, average, paired t-test, and Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test. The results indicated a significant learning improvement in conceptual understanding of the respondents from the preintervention means 6.79 and 17.69 points, to responding posttest intervention. Furthermore, the dependent samples test analysis results and their corresponding computed effect sizes confirmed that integrating game-based strategies in learning basic accounting concepts and principles can significantly improve learners’ understanding of the basic accounting concepts and principles.
