Abstract
This study investigated the effects of SE instructional model on Grade VI pupils’ academic performance in force and motion. One class with 24 pupils participated in the research using mixed-method in which the quantitative data were collected using an achievement test, whereas, qualitative data were analyzed via content analysis of the reflection logs of the pupils. Frequency count, mean, standard deviation and t-test were used to analyze the pre-post test scores of the pupils. The findings revealed that 5E instructional model significantly improved the acquisition of scientific concepts in force and motion among pupils. The results have also been supported by the reflections collected from the pupils and were thematically analyzed. This study revealed that the 5E instructional model is a potential strategy to improve academic performance in force and motion among sixth graders.
