Abstract
This study was conducted to determine the comparative analysis of contract and non-contract backyard swine raising in the province of Ilocos Sur. Specifically,this study aimed to determine the production practices, and marketing practices, profitability level and problems encountered. Purposive random sampling was used. Data were analyzed using the measure of central tendency.
This study shows that feed supply was the equity of the contract raisers, used
controlled feeding with adlibitum water and health management was practiced. Noncontract hog raisers provided all inputs. In marketing, pricing was based on the current kilogram live weight. Profitability analysis shows, 24.24% ROI on contract hog raising and 28.77% on non-contract hog raising. Unregulated price of live weight was considered as extremely serious problem and feed supply for the pigs for the noncontract raisers.
