Abstract
Rhoeo discolor is commonly grown as an ornamental plant. It is used to treat various health problems in folkloric medicine. This study aimed to evaluate the antioxidant and antiangiogenic activities of R. discolor ethanol leaf extract. Qualitative phytochemical analysis was conducted to determine the presence of bioactive compounds. Standard detection tests revealed that it is rich in bioactive compounds such as alkaloids, saponins, phenolics, tannins and flavonoids. The plant crude extract was prepared at various concentrations and was evaluated using different assays. The plant extract showed a concentration-dependent antioxidant and antiangiogenic activities. Results showed that R. discolor ethanol leaf extract has potent antioxidant and antiangiogenic activities which may be utilized for the development of potential cancer therapeutic agent.
