dc.description.abstract | SERRANO, STEVE, S. (2023). Methods of Planting Different Hybrid Glutinous Corn Under La Union Conditions. Master of Science in Agronomy. Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University, North La Union Campus, College of Graduate Studies, Bacnotan, La Union. Adviser: Libunao, Virgilio M., Ph.D. The unusual evidence of transplanting in corn cultivation in the Philippines triggered the researcher to test its feasibility on a farm scale. Thus, this study was designed to assess the performance, profitability, and interaction effects of planting methods (direct seeding and transplanting) on three hybrid glutinous corn varieties (Purple Sweet, Violeta, and Honey Purple) grown in La Union. The study employed a strip plot design composed of three blocks. The two different planting methods were the vertical factors, while the three hybrid glutinous corn varieties were the horizontal factors. From January to April 2021, this research was carried out in Damortis, Santo Tomas, La Union. The two methods of planting proved to have significant influenced on the performance of hybrid glutinous corn varieties. Highly significant variations were observed on the day after sowing to seedling emergence, while significant results were noticed on seedling survival, days after sowing to silk initiation, and days after sowing to harvesting. The three hybrid glutinous corn varieties revealed highly significant on plant height, days after sowing to silk initiation, days after sowing to harvesting, ear diameter, and number of developed kernels. whereas on the parameters percentage of corn produced tillers, number of tillers per plant, number of leaves of the main stem including tillers, number of ears, cob diameter, and dry weight of upper biomass, significant differences were noted. All parameters evaluated observed no interaction variation. | |
