Abstract
Tertiary level of education is a stage where the individual gains autonomy, wider social circle, greater responsibilities, and makes more life decisions. Along the way, the student may encounter several problems that may affect his or her psychological well- being which in turn may hamper him/her in achieving goals set. Problems when left unsolved piles up and may take the best of the person, thus, it is essential to determine when to seek help and whom to seek help from.
This paper analyzed the help-seeking attitude, intention, preference and the assessment of the counseling program by the students enrolled in the tertiary level. Qualitative method was employed using questionnaire checklist to gather data among 213 students.
The study indicates a positive attitude towards help-seeking when confronted with psychological and emotional issues and a high likelihood towards help-seeking especially when confronted with serious concerns. In seeking help, the parent is the preferred source of help among the professional and nonprofessional sources presented. The course of the respondents is associated with the help-seeking attitude while the family structure relates with help-seeking intention.
