Abstract
One of the reasons why students have negative sense of self is due to the effects of bullying in school. The objective of study is to identify the perceived bullying experiences and the students’ sense of self. The study utilized the descriptive research design using survey method. Students were chosen from CICOSAT Secondary Level enrolled during school year 2014 — 2015. The researcher administered an adapted questionnaire from the thesis of Gail Anderson (2007).
Statistical tools such as frequency counts, average weighted mean and Pearson Product Moment Correlation were used. Findings of the study revealed that majority of the respondents are in puberty stage, males, eldest with few siblings, mostly fourth year students, living within poverty line, with parents who are both college graduate, with mothers who are plain housewife, and with fathers who are mostly blue collar workers.
The respondents have high awareness on their sense of self. They also always experienced verbal bullying. A relationship exists between the age and physical sense of self, birth order and emotional sense of self; year level correlates to physical sense of self and creative sense of self; gender, monthly family income and educational attainment of mother correlate to the creative sense of self; and lastly, physical and social bullying is correlated to social sense of self.
