dc.description.abstractReading competency of learners are influenced by internal and external factors. This study aimed to determine the factors affecting the reading competency of 55 DMMMSU MLUC preschoolers and to formulate a developmental reading program. Standardized survey questionnaire and reading assessment were used as the main data gathering tools. Findings include: learners’ extent of support to the areas of home reading support, home environment, and school environment are in the highly supported level; kindergartners are interested in reading; the reading competencies of kindergartners are generally competent; significant associations exist along the areas of letter knowledge, phonemic awareness and comprehension; the predictors identified are the parents'/caregivers’ provided activities, availability of reading materials, and interpersonal. The proposed developmental reading program is designed to help enhance the reading competencies of learners.
