Abstract
This study aimed to identify the challenges faced by public high school coaches in La Union using a descriptive quantitative design involving 101 Department of Education sports coaches. Data were collected through a validated questionnaire assessing coaching challenges and coping strategies, and analyzed using descriptive statistics and Spearman's rank correlation to examine the relationship between variables. Findings revealed that coaches face significant challenges in facilities, resources, pedagogy, and workload, including inadequate equipment, limited budgets, large athlete groups, and balancing teaching and administrative duties. Despite these obstacles, coaches employed adaptive coping strategies such as resource improvisation, time management, professional development, and collaboration with administrators. A strong positive relationship was found between challenges and coping mechanisms, leading to the development of a Coaching Development Program to enhance long-term professional growth for public school coaches.
