Abstract
This study was conducted primarily to determine the difficulties encountered by the General Science student teachers of DMl\11v[SU-SLUC-LHS. The descriptive survey type of research was used with a questionnaire as the main gathering tool. The study involved 20 General Science Student teachers who are enrolled in the practicum phase of student teaching in the College of Education during the second semester of school year 2001-2002. Statistical tools used in analyzing data were frequency counts, ranking and weighted mea General Science student teachers encounter difficulties during their practicum phase. They consider working dependency on the cooperating teachers -as difficulty. In classroom instruction, the unsatisfactory preparation of lesson plans proved to be most difficult for the General Science student teacher. Inadequate orientation from the Cooperating Teachers was a difficulty in terms of the General Teachers and Supervising Instructors. In connection to this, there are certain factors that greatly affect such difficulties. The discipline of the learners is the major contributing factor in the difficulties of the General Science Student Teachers in classroom management. In terms of classroom instruction, fatigue or stress is the predominant factors contributing to their difficulties. Lastly, pressure from schoolwork greatly affects the relationship of the General Science student teachers with their Cooperating Teachers and Supervising Instructors.
