Abstract
This study was undertaken to analyze the saltwater intrusion in the selected municipalities of the first district of La Union. It aimed to 1) determine the water salinity
level from shallow tube wells. 2) compare the salinity gradient at different coastal
distances, and 3) generate a salinity level map of the coastal agricultural areas. The
research design employed was descriptive research, utilizing the T-test assuming equal
variance to determine the statistical differences at various coastal distances.
The highest average salinity value obtained from all the data was 1533.33 ppm
located in barangay Rimos No. 2, Luna, La Union, and 1220 ppm located in barangay
Salcedo, Luna, La Union, which was characterized as slightly saline water. Conversely,
the lowest average salinity value obtained from all the data was 275 ppm, located in
Barangay Sta. Cruz, Bacnotan, La Union, which was characterized as fresh water.
