Abstract
This study was conducted in a greenhouse established at the west side of the Agricultural Engineering building from October 14, 2006 to January 04, 2007 to determine the significant effects of frequency of irrigation on the growth of green pepper, yield as related to water irrigated and climatic factors. Four treatments, replicated three times were used with the same height when transplanted were distributed randomly following the Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD), with the following parameters; weekly height of plants height at maturity, yield of plants. Plants were irrigated at certain field capacity depletion; (50% field capacity depletion, 75% field capacity depletion, range of 50% to 75% field capacity depletion, and one treatment was irrigated daily to maintain field capacity of the soil) Analysis of Variance in Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) was used to determine whether there exist significant among treatments. The Least Significance Difference (LSD) was used for further test of significance; and simple linear-regression analysis was used to determine the relationship of the total water applied and total yield of the plants; and yield and climatic factors (temperature and relative humidity). Level of field capacity depletion revealed that there was no significant effect on the height of plant. Yield reveals that the more depletion the more water applied and the more water applied the more yield produced. However, constant field capacity applied less water but produced comparable yield to 75% field capacity depletion and 50% to 75% range of field capacity depletion. Since constant field capacity was irrigated with the aid of dripper where water is directly available to plant roots, this will allow the plant to immediately absorb the water and use.
