This study was conducted from November 2005 to February 2006, to design, construct and evaluate an organic fertilizer applicator. It was constructed at the shop of Mr. Boy Lacsamana in Central West #3, Bangar, La Union. The performance testing was done in Brgy. Consuegra, Bangar, La Union and at the Farm Shop of Agricultural Engineering Building. The fertilizer applicator was designed and developed to apply organic fertilizers before planting at a distance of 0.5 meters between furrows. It has three (3) ring joint power transmission that the connected to the ground wheel and attached with the sprockets and chain. As the machine is pulled, the ground wheel rotates, at the same time the mechanisms and the auger also rotates, in which the placed fertilizer in the hopper will apply on the ground. The cost of fabrication of the fertilizer applicator amounted to six thousand nine hundred pesos (Php 5,900.00). In the performance, two (2) sprockets with the equivalent speeds were considered. Among them are as follows: Speed 1 = 31-40 rpm for the 45T sprocket Speed 2 = 20-30 rpm for the 48T sprocket Results showed that the machine had a maximum discharge rate of 127.13 kg/hr and a minimum of 107.14 kg/hr. While the maximum and minimum machine’s efficiency were 96.00% and 95.50%, respectively. Significant relationship existed on the discharge rate while efficiency was not affected by the speed. Based on the results of the study, the fabricated organic fertilizer applicator is recommended to be used in an area where turning and maneuverability is possible, thereby even distribution can be attained. Furthermore, speed ranging from 31 to 40 rpm be maintained and it is desirable to use the 45T sprocket to attain highest capacity.
