Abstract
This study was conducted to (1) determine the demographic profile of corn
farmers in San Juan, La Union; (2) determine the corn production profile in San Juan, La Union; (3) determine the corn residue and biomass energy potential on-farm, and (4) determine the potential uses of corn stover in San Juan, La Union.
There were three hundred twenty-four (324) farmer-respondents in the study from ten barangays of San Juan, La Union. A checklist-type of questionnaire and interview were used as an instrument in gathering data and information from the farmers.
Results showed that the biomass yield assessment of corn in ten barangays of San Juan, La Union can produce 2,788.41 tons of stover. The potential energy produced by using a lower calorific value is 46,841 GJ and at a higher calorific value of 51,590 GJ. Lastly, the municipality of San Juan showed great potential in establishing a biomass conversion system for energy production with computed 14,330 MWh of potential power.
The total value of corn stover is Php 3,207,498.00 if utilize for feedstock, soil
conditioner and mushroom substrate.
