| dc.description.abstract | This study evaluated the in vitro and in vivo efficacy of kakawate oil against Sarcoptes scabiei and Demodex canis, focusing on mortality time, visual scoring, and mite count reduction. Phase 1 involved collecting mites from two dogs and distributing them into five treatments. The most effective concentration (100%) was used in Phase 2, where twelve dogs were randomly assigned to four treatments with three per group. Data were analyzed qualitatively and quantitatively using ANOVA. Results showed that Treatment 4 (100% kakawate oil) resulted in the shortest mean time to death for mites, and effectively reduced skin lesions and mite counts for Sarcoptes scabiei by 92.94%. Treatments 3 (1% kakawate oil with 2% aloe vera gel) and 2 (1% kakawate oil with no aloe vera) also significantly reduced mite counts (87.01% and 78.45%, respectively) and they were also comparable to Treatment 1 (kakawate leaf extract soap) for Demodex canis.
