Abstract
MATIAS, NOVIE ANN D. (2023) Botanical Insecticides on the Control of Whiteflies (Bemisia spp.) of Pole ‘Sitao’ [Vigna unguiculata subsp. sesquipedalis (L.) Verd.]. Bachelor of Science in Agriculture Major in Crop Protection. Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University, North La Union Campus, College of Agriculture, Department of Crop Protection, Sapilang, Bacnotan, La Union. Adviser: Simon, Jeramil C. The ccontinuous use of synthetic pesticides to control whiteflies in pole sitao has resulted in negative effects on humans and environment. Hence, this study was conducted to identify appropriate botanical insecticide againts pole sitao whiteflies. Specifically, the study aimed tto assested the occurence, pest incidence, and degree of damage caused by pole sitao whiteflies; and evaluated the field efficacy of botanicals extract against whiteflies that would enhance yield of pole sitao. The was conducted at Barangay Libbo, Bagulin, La Union from September 2022 to December 2022. The area was laid out in Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) having five treatments in 3 blocks. The different treatment were: control, insecticide (profenofos), kakawate leaf extract, neem leaf extract, lagtang leaf extract. The neem leaf extract, lagtang leaf extract and kakawate leaf extract were delayed the number of days of whitefly occurence in the field. Kakawate leaf extract obtained lowest percentage of pest insidence of 22.14%, and a degree of damge of 15.07%. The used of neem, kakawate, and lagtang leaf extract is recommended to delay the occurence of whiteflies in pole sitao. In addition, kakawate leaf extract is recommended to decrease the pest indidence and degree of damage caused by this insects.
