dc.description.abstractIntercropping is an important crop management strategy that should be applied by small scale farmer. Hence, a study empolying the young corn-mungbean intercropping was conducted with different rates of seeding ( T1 - 3 sedds of corn + mungo, T2 - 5 seeds of corn + mungo, T3 - 7 seeds of corn + mungo, T4 - 3 seeds of corn monocrop, T5 - 5 seeds of corn monocrop, T6 - 7 seeds of corn monocrop, and T7 - mungo as monocrop) to determine the bes seeding rate of young corn intercrop with mungbean that would give the optimum yield and profit using the Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with three blocks. This study was conducted at the experimental farm of DMMMSU-NLUC, Bacnotan, La Union from November 13, 2004 to January 20, 2005. Based on the result of the study, young corn and mungbean in the pure stand registered significantly the greatest number of cob corn per plant and pods per plant, consequently, produced the highest yield. However substantial yield advantage was obtained over the monocrop when the yield of both young corn and mungbean gave the highest yield, net income of Php 53,023.22 per ha, return on total expenses of 94.95% benefit cost ratio of 1.95 and LER of 1.02.
