Abstract
The study aimed to determine the best organic fertilizers mixed with inorganic fertilizers that will give the best growth, highest yield, and highest income of garlic planted in between duhat.
The study was conducted at the Agroforestry Research and Demonstration Farm (ARDF) of the Institute of Agroforestry and Watershed Management, Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University, North La Union Campus, Bacnotan, La Union, from September 16, 2011 to December 16, 2011 in an area of 60 square meters.
The study was laid out using the Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) replicated four times.
The treatments used were T₁= 0.52 g of 16-20-0 + 0.062g of 46-0-0, T₂=-Bio-N + 0.26 g of 16-20 + 0.031 g of 46-0-0, T₃= Chicken dung + 0.26 g of 16-20-0 + 0.031 g of 46-0-0, T₄=Cattle manure + 0.26 g of 16-20-0 + 0.031 g of 46-0-0.
The different organic fertilizers mixed with inorganic fertilizers used did not significantly affect the height, survival, bulb diameter and yield of garlic when intercropped in between one year old duhat trees.
However, the application of cattle manure + 0.26 g of 16-20-0 + 0.031 g of 46-0-0 produced the tallest plants, while the application of chicken dung + 0.26 g of 16-20-0 + 0.031 g of 46-0-0 produced the shortest plants. Application of cattle manure + 0.26 g of 16-20-0 + 0.031 g of 46-0-0 gave the highest percentage survival, while application of 0.52 g of 16-20-0 + 0.062 g of 46-0-0 resulted to the lowest percentage survival of garlic plants.
In terms of bulb diameter, chicken dung + 0.26 g of 16-20-0 + 0.031 g of 46-0-0 gave the biggest bulb diameter, while bio- N + 0.26 g of 16-20-0 + 0.031 g of 46-0-0 gave the smallest bulb diameter. The plants applied with bio-N + 0.26 of 16-20-0 + 0.031 g of 46-0-0 produced the highest yield per plot g and per hectare, while the plants applied with 0.52 g 16-20-0 + 0.062 46-0-0 obtained the lowest yield per plot and per hectare.
Based on the results of the study, any of the organic fertilizers mixed with inorganic fertilizers could be applied to garlic in between one-year old duhat trees. However, the application of bio- N + 0.26g 16-20-0 + 0.031g 46-0-0 is preferable because of the highest income derived.
