Abstract
In view of increased interest in developing plant origin insecticides as alternative to chemical insecticides, this study was undertaken to assess the larvicidal potential of Marigold, Neem, Hagonoy, Lantana and Makabuhay.
Approximately fifty (50) mosquito larvae were placed in a container with twenty five (25) ml water. Seventy five (75) ml each of the botanical extract was incorporated per treatment replicated three (3) times following the Complete Randomized Design.
Hagonoy had the maximum larvicidal activity of 100%. Lantana obtained 94% followed closely by Marigold with 90% but did not differ significantly from larvicidal activity of Hagonoy. Neem, had significantly lower larvicidal activity of 64%. Makabuhay gave lowest larvicidal effect of 21.33%. LT50 and LT90 of Hagonoy is 1.68 hours and 2.51; Lantana is 3.18, 5.42 hours; Marigold is 3.34, 5.91 hours; Neem is 5.46, 8.78 hours and Makabuhay is 15.44 and 26.56 hours respectively.
