Abstract
This study focused on designing, constructing, and testing a Microcontroller-Based Biodegradable Waste Shredder. The researchers used a descriptive-developmental method, starting with the design and conceptualization of the machine, followed by gathering materials such as stainless-steel frame, induction motor, worm gear reducer, shaft blades, Arduino Uno, and safety components. The machine was fabricated, assembled, and installed with a microcontroller system to detect overload and no-load conditions, providing automatic shutdown for protection. Testing was conducted using 1 kg, 3 kg, and 5 kg of leftover vegetables from public markets. Results showed an average overload current of 5.67A, 5.80A, and 5.93A, and average shredding times of 0.53 minutes, 3.81 minutes, and 5.72 minutes, respectively. The average shredded output was 0.56 kg, 2.05 kg, and 3.73 kg. Problems encountered during testing included motor insufficiency, wiring issues, and programming errors, which were resolved through adjustments and code revisions. The study concluded that the machine performed effectively, was able to protect the motor, conserve energy, and assist in managing biodegradable waste in a safer and more efficient way.
