Abstract
The study was conducted to design, construct and test the performance of a Cassava Chipper. The Cassava Chipper was tested to determine its chipping capacity, chipping recovery, chipping efficiency and chipping quality with respect to the different operating speeds (rpm) of the machine. The study was conducted at the Department of Agricultural Engineering, DMMMSU-NLUC from November 2015 to February 2016 and was tested its performance at Bumbuneg, San Gabriel, La Union.
The machine was constructed as operator-assisted for continuous feeding and chipping process. Three treatments were used to evaluate the machine. It has a chipping capacity of 433.37 kg/day, chipping recovery of 99.21 percent, an efficiency of 100 percent and met the chipping quality of average standard thickness of 4 mm ±5 percent and has no significant difference among the three treatments.
The cost of fabricating the machine was Php 13,421.65. The annual net income is Php 282,761.088. Payback period of the machine will be 6 days.
