Abstract
‘Sibujing’ is a localized crop in the Philippines used as a condiment in Mindanao.
It has shown promise as a medicinal herb and food ingredients, serving as a cost
effective alternative to onions. This study was conducted to evaluate the effects of
fermented banana peel extract and vermicompost on the growth and yield of ‘Sibujing’
(Allium chinense G. Don). The study was conducted at the experimental area of
DMMMSU-NLUC, Sapilang, Bacnotan, La Union from October 18, 2023 to January 10,
2024. The treatments consisted of four, namely; BSR ‘Inorganic fertilizer’(T1), 100%
Vermicompost (T2), 75% Vermicompost + FBPE 2 tbsp./Li of water (T3), and 50% of
Vermicompost + FBPE 4 tbsp./Li of water (T4), and were arranged in RCBD with three
replications.
The study revealed that T3 (75% vermicompost + FBPE2 tbsp./Li of water)
consistently produced the tallest plant height (37.36cm), and widest leaf width (2.64mm)
compared to other treatments. It also showed significant consistency in bulb diameter
(6.80mm) and root length (14.37cm). However, no significant result in yield per hectare.
