Abstract
The A desk type seedling tray dibbler tool (DeSTDi Tool) was designed for tray based seedling production of high value crops. It was locally-fabricated using commonly used shop materials, tools and equipment. The design and fabrication was done on April 2017, at the Motorpool Unit of Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University-North La union Campus, Bacnotan, La Union. The testing was held at the researcher’s residence.
The study sought to design, construct and evaluate a dibbling tool that can punch pricking holes faster, easier, and with better quality output. Specifically, it aimed to fabricate and evaluate the performance of DeSTDi Tool in terms of: dibbling time (sec per tray), dibbling quality (%), and dibbling capacity (tray per hour). The cost and return analysis of the study was also performed.
The machine has had an average dibbling time of 6.7 seconds, a 97.1 percent
quality, and held a capacity of 538 trays per hour. The machine cost was 2,575.50 pesos and the payback period is 6 days.
