dc.description.abstractJust like other provinces in Region I, banana production in La Union has not met the sufficiency level for the past five years. With the propose agro-industrial development plan in Region I and having La Union as the proposed site of the Regional Industrial Center, rural and industrial center, rural and agri-based industries are being enhanced. Fruit and plantation crops development and fruit processing are supported and enhanced in the province with banana as the commodity for production and commercial processing. La Union possesses the tropical climate and soil requirement appropriate for banana production. The marginal lands can be made productive if planted with this easily grow since it does not require intensive cultural management. The production and processing of this crop can serve as an added source of income and employment.
