Abstract
Feeds crisis is one major problem on broiler production coupled with the increase on the price of feed ingredients. For this reason, researchers have focused on possible feed substitutes using traditional feedstuffs which are cheaper and available in the locality. The need for the discovery of new sources of traditional feedstuffs is important, hence, this study was conducted to evaluate the performance of broilers fed with commercial broiler starter mash with varying levels of peanut leaf meal. A total of 75 broiler chicks at 14 days old were randomly distributed into five dietary treatments with five birds per treatment following the RCBD design with three blocks at DMMMSU NLUC, Bacnotan, La Union from November 20 to December 26, 2011.
Result of the study revealed that birds fed with 5% peanut leaf meal performed comparably with birds fed with commercial mash in terms of final and gain in weight. There were no marked differences noted on feed consumption, feed conversion ratio and profit above feed, medicine and stock cost.
