Abstract
The study was conducted to determine the effectiveness of different activators in the decomposition rate of agricultural wastes. It was conducted at the Agroforestry Nursery, Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University, North La Union Campus from August to October 2005. Different activators were used in the experimental study. The different treatments used were the following: To - Water (control) T1- Urine T2- Nova Tech digester Completely Randomized Design (CRD) was used in assigning the different treatments. Each treatment was replicated three times. The compost products were brought to the Bureau of Soils, San Fernando City La Union for the Nitrogen, Phosphorus and Potassium content analysis. Its pH and organic matter were analyzed at the Sericulture Research and Development Institute, Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University, North La Union Campus. Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) was used in the analysis of data. T2 (Nova Tech digester) showed the fastest decomposition rate and highest temperature during the decomposition. The nutrient content analysis indicated that T2 (Nova-Tech digester) had the highest percent total nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium values. To (water) obtained the highest percent total organic matter. To (water), however, had the highest percent total carbon. The different activators had a comparable pH condition in their respective compost products. The study showed that urine could be used to hasten the decomposition of agricultural wastes in just 49.0 days.
